I have a Chevy Silv 2008 with a 4.3 V6. Would this a 4.3 Vortec?  I don't have a manual so I have no idea.  I question this because I have had 3 Astro Vans with the 4.3 Vortec and those all had a whole lot more HP, Torq and better mpg than this WT or Work Truck. Even loaded with the family on vacation they were great.  I cannot figure out why it has no pickup.

First of all, the GMT-900 trucks are significantly heavier than their predecessors, whereas the 4.3 Vortec hasn't changed much over the last several generations of trucks. So weight is probably the biggest factor. The Astro weighed from 3,964 to 4,605 depending on configuration, whereas the '08 Silverado weighed at the lightest 4,448 lbs (2WD, regular cab, short box) up to more than 5,200 lbs. for a 4x4 extended cab. That's probably the best answer I can give you.

I have the same question. I also wanted to know if it's the same engine that is in the S-10. I have an 08 Silverado and there are a lot of performance parts for the 4.3L V6 but most applications only list the S-10 and not the Silverado.

Well, there have been some changes to the 4.3 on the Silverado. I think the newer models have an electronic throttle, vs. a cable throttle on the older models. Also, the intake manifolds have changed over the past few years. The basic engine design hasn't changed much, but compatibility of parts year-to-year probably has. Generally-speaking, there are a lot more performance parts out there for the V8 models that the V6s, if you're talking about the Silverado.

my 07 has never gotten better than 20mpg.  the only mod i did was a kn filter and e3 plugs.  i have an ranchhand brushguard and a tool box with about 300lbs of tools. this could get better milage with a true coldair intake, but no one makes one.  just be light on the throttle and try to keep speeds below 75.
