We are looking at buying a 2005 6.0 with 138,000 miles. Truck appears to be in great shape. We went to take it for a test drive and had bad trottle response and put out lots of black smoke until turbo spooled up. Dealer used code reader and found EGR problem. Said he would repair or replace before purchase. Is this a sign that we should stay away from this truck? Have heard bad things about the 6.0 but dealer says that the 2005 is better than the first ones. Help! We are just looking for a good truck and can't afford a lemon!!

The 6.0-liter Power Strokes are more problematic than most. The clogged EGR problem was/is pretty common, so be sure to replace it with a better designed unit. Was there a CEL and are there any modifications to the truck?
