In a letter sent to nearly 1.5 million Saturn owners Wednesday night, Saturn stated that a spinoff from General Motors is a possibility after contractual obligations end with GM following the 2012 model year. Already an indirect subsidiary of GM, the Saturn Distribution Corporation manages all Saturn dealer franchise arrangements and could potentially find an alternate supplier of vehicles to sell for 2013.

The problem is, GM is desperately trying to shed assets just as everyone else has empty pockets as well. One of two things is going to happen to Saturn.

1) The brand essentially folds after 2012, along with the dealer network and brand name.

2) The dealer network and brand name rights are bought by a Chinese company that wants into the U.S. market. I must say I have major concerns about this scenario. Saturn built its name on quality and customer service. If a lowball Chinese brand comes in with sub-par products and bad customer service, any credibility left with the Saturn name will disappear.
