Winnebago Industries is offering free tours of its main manufacturing facility in Forest City beginning April 1. Featured as one of the best in the U.S.A. by factory tour experts Karen Axlerod and Bruce Brumberg in their book, Watch it Made in the U.S.A., Winnebago Industries boasts one of the most technologically advanced RV manufacturing facilities in the world with cutting edge technology and efficient, assembly-line motor home production.
Tours are offered twice daily from April 1 through November 30, and start at the Winnebago Industries’ Visitors Center. The tour begins with a 20-minute video that provides visitors with a preview of the manufacturing process they are about to tour. After the video, the tour bus (constructed on a Winnebago Industries Commercial Vehicle shell) departs for a drive-through tour of the grounds, and a walk-in tour of the main production area. From a mezzanine overlooking the production lines, visitors are able to get a bird’s eye view of the magnitude of the motor home manufacturing process. Each tour lasts approximately ninety minutes.
The Visitors Center also houses the Winnebago Industries Museum which details the Company’s 50 year history, as well as the design and construction of the Company’s motor homes. Last year, nearly 10,000 people stopped at the Visitors Center to tour the factory and the museum.
During the spring and summer months, the Visitors Center features some of the latest models of the Company’s Winnebago® and Itasca® motor homes right off the assembly lines. Visitors will also find one of the first motor homes built by Winnebago Industries, the classic 1967 Winnebago D22, as well as a 1959 Aljo trailer.
All tours of Winnebago Industries are free, and all ages are welcome. Small children must be accompanied by an adult.
