A couple guys were asking about a good 4BT, so I`m listing mine for sale.
It`s in a `77 step-van that was originally a 6cyl gas. Converted to this Cummins as many were in the late 80`s, early 90`s.
Approx. 70,000 miles on the engine, 112,000 on the truck. I have heard of 4BT`s going 7 to 8000 hrs., which equates to over 400,000 miles.
The truck has a 4 speed, so if you`re looking for a manual set-up, this is your parts source. If you take it all, you`ll have the engine, starter, plate, flywheel hydro-boost brake system, etc. the truck looks and drives very nice, new paint, nice chrome wheel covers, drive it home for $3500. If you only need the engine, I`ll pull it after you`ve run and driven it, $2500.
Clean engine, starts on first crank, has cold start solenoid, turbo spools up nice, just bolt it in your truck and go.
rear duals are real good also, and you can make the truck into a cheap storage shed.
If interested, call 712-210-0081   I`m in Iowa

Hi

I have an'82 GMC step van with a 292-I6,4 speed/stick,4:10 ratio,16.5 x 9.5 wheel & tire combo,power brakes,manual steering.

My question is,what was involved with the 4bt swap?
I'm also planning on installing a 3l80HD Turbo Hydramatic with straight cut gears & a rear ratio change.

I know I'm asking for allot of information, but if you could help me with advice/knowledge and or direct me to where I can obtain as much information so that I have the least amount of down time and set backs I would appreciate it immensly.

My step van is used only for ice cream vending.80% 8-10 mph and the rest 30-55 mph.

My aim of course is better fuel mileage and more better driveability/nimbleness from one point to another.

Thanks again for any assistance & knowledge that you can provide me with.
