I have a 2000 7.3 F250. What is the stock turbo boost for that year and how do i install a boost gauge. Also how much boost can the stcok turbo produce and how do I get more boost out of a stock turbo without casuing drivability issues.

i also have a 2000 superduty, but mine is a 350. I'm running an edge evolution, airaid intake, and 4" turbo back exhaust. I run the programmer on 100 hp because that's the one that handles the best. As far as boost goes, the highest i've ever seen it was around 18 or 19 psi. From what i hear, that's typical because the stock turbo wasn;t made to produce a lot of boost. But the problem is that the turbo lags a lot behind the rpm's when floored, and when it up shifts, the turb just dies. Cheapest fix would be a different turbo housing or compressor wheel. I'm checking into turbos for mine currently. Not the cheapest option, but would work the best. New turbo will set ya back at least $2,000.

stock turbo i saw 20 at the highest at sea level. if youre going to be pushing 45psi or more in boost you need to do head studs or else you'll be blowing head gaskets.

there is a red line with a black end on it that runs to a vacuum bulb on your turbo. I unpluged mine, and pluged the black end with a small bolt, I have a superchips tuner stacked on a banks six gun, I get 26 pounds of boost at 2500 rpms .

I have gotten 23 lbs of boost out of mine. See my signature for mods. I know via research that the stock turbo's are rated for 25 lbs max. My 23lbs is above 2500rpms. When you buy new gauges they will come with install instructions, or if you get them used you can go on most of the manufacturer’s sites and download the install instructions there. I went with the triple pillar pod from AutoMeter, and it came with everything needed with no prior install knowledge I did it in a couple hours.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.  I am looking into getting a wicked wheel or comparable product. Any info on who sells the best upgrade wheel? Banks claims higher boost levels do any others increase boost?

xtreme diesel performance has a compressor wheel that'll help, you can also get the ats ported shroud, or if you can afford it the garret gtp38r turbo, it'll support up to like 450 rwhp or something like that so it is definately worth the money...

Figured out what was wrong with my truck, what i call the throttle position sensor by the gas pedal had a short in it, wouldn't give it full throttle. now it really screams!!! thought something was wrong with it when it would just nose over during normal excelleration. easy fix.

Thanks for all the info. It sounds like I should expect between 20-30psi of boost from my stock turbo.  Has anyone tried the banks high boost compressor wheel and Big head wastegate actuator? Would this increase boost or just keep it at a given PSI for longer.

Next question:

Does compressor surge cause damage to the Turbo?
