I own a 04 f/liner columbia with C-12 engine, eaton 18 spd smartshift,i'm having major problem with the smartshift changing up thru the gears.
The problem is its searching for gears in the up shift mode not selecting the next gear quickly and smoothly.
There are no fault codes coming up when do self diagnostic check.
We have tried everything, new x y shifters, new ecu,new shift controller,3 new sensors and wiring harness, new range and shift solenoids, shift and range cyclinders removed cleaned new o rings, new nut rear gearbox, checked pulse ring found to be tight.
any info much appreciated thank you.

Drop observation plate, compare gap for the shift fork in 4/5th clutch, to the gap in new clutch. More than likely excessive miles causing the gap to be too wide. The computer searches for the next gear but can’t find it due to excessive travel, then goes to a search mode.  A program came out in  2006ish to address this. This is probably a RTO16910BDM2.

Eaton has horrible problem with their harnesses, controllers and x-y shifters. Make sure your fuel filters are good. If they are plugged the Trans may not go into top gear or have power problems, the power and ground wires need to be connected directly to the batteries, there is a bulletin out for checking the harness for damage.
