Chrysler Group LLC today reported U.S. sales of 117,731 units, a 16 percent increase compared with sales in January 2012 (101,149 units), and the group's best January sales since 2008.

The Chrysler, Dodge, Ram Truck and FIAT brands each posted year-over-year sales gains in January compared with the same month last year. The Dodge brand's 37 percent increase was the largest sales gain of any Chrysler Group brand in January. Chrysler Group extended its streak in January to 34-consecutive months of year-over-year sales gains.

On Wednesday we announced full year 2012 profits of *** billion and followed that today with our January sales, up 16 percent, marking our 34th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth," said Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. Sales. "Entering 2013 our product portfolio has never been stronger with our new Ram truck picking up both the 2013 Motor Trend and the North American 'Truck of the Year' awards, and the introduction of our new 30 mpg highway Jeep® Grand Cherokee equipped with our new EcoDiesel engine."

The all-new Dodge Dart continued on its upward sales trend with an 17 percent month-over-month increase in January, the compact car's best monthly sales performance since it was launched in June last year. In addition, the Dodge Journey full-size crossover, America's most versatile crossover, recorded its best sales month ever in January.

Five Chrysler Group vehicles recorded their best January sales. Setting a sales record for the month of January were the Fiat 500, the Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200 mid-size sedans, the Dodge Challenger muscle car, and the Jeep Patriot compact SUV. Sales of the Ram pickup truck, the volume leader in January, were up 14 percent compared to the same month a year ago.

Chrysler Group finished the month with an 87-days supply of inventory (411,349 units). U.S. industry sales figures for January are projected at an estimated 15.5 million units Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR).

January 2013 U.S. Sales Highlights by Brand

Dodge Brand

Dodge brand sales were up 37 percent in January, the brand's best January sales in five years and its 20th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. The Dodge brand's 37 percent increase was the largest sales gain of any Chrysler Group brand last month.

Sales of the all-new Dodge Dart were up 17 percent month-over-month in January, the compact car's best monthly sales since Dodge dealers began selling the model in June last year. In addition to the Dart, the Dodge Journey, America's most versatile and affordable crossover, had its best sales month ever in January, the eighth-consecutive month that the Journey has set a sales record. The Dodge Avenger sedan and Dodge Challenger sports car each set sales records for the month of January. All three vehicles are coming off their all-time best annual sales year in 2012.

For the second-consecutive year, the Challenger won the Cars.com "Shopper's Choice Award" in January. Representing the voice of millions of shoppers who visit Cars.com, the Challenger beat out nine other domestic and import finalists, ranging from small cars to large SUVs, to become their favorite car of 2013. The award was announced at the website's annual "Best of 2013" event during the NAIAS in Detroit.

The Dodge brand unveiled the Dodge Dart GT model at the NAIAS in January, the newest addition to the Dart family. The Dart GT hits the mark with 184 horsepower, premium Nappa leather seats and a sport-tuned suspension that caters to the driving enthusiast for a U.S. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of only $20,995. Dart GT production will begin in the second quarter 2013. The sporty Dart GT model originally made its debut 50 years ago offering drivers enhanced performance and style.

FIAT Brand

Fiat 500 sales were up 31 percent last month, a sales record for the month of January. It was the 11th-consecutive month in which the Fiat 500 has set a sales record, including an all-time sales record in September last year.

The FIAT brand unveiled two Fiat 500 design concepts at the NAIAS in January. The models are based on the successful high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth and the recently launched Fiat 500 Turbo, and they showcase how unique, sporty and personal the 500s can look. The Fiat 500 Abarth "Tenebra" design concept displays unique Matte Grigio (gray) paint and special appointments including a roof-size Abarth scorpion logo, while the Fiat 500 "Cattiva" design concept highlights the 500 Turbo's sophisticated appearance featuring sporty bi-color look and blacked-out appearance.

Chrysler Brand

Chrysler brand sales were up 18 percent in January, the brand's best January sales in five years and its 19th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. The Chrysler 200 mid-size sedan set a sales record for the month of January with its 26 percent sales gain. The 200 had its best sales year ever in 2012.

Sales of the flagship Chrysler 300 full-size sedan were up 7 percent compared with the same month last year. January was the 300 sedan's 15th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. The Chrysler brand expanded the 300 series sedan lineup in January with the new Chrysler 300 Glacier and Chrysler 300 Motown editions. The 300 Glacier combines the segment's most advanced all-wheel-drive system with best-in-class AWD fuel economy, unique design appointments, world-class technologies, and a fresh look to the stylish and sophisticated 300 series sedan lineup. The limited-edition 300 Motown pays tribute to the Motor City's resurgence and determination through unique style and sounds from original Motown recording artists.

The Chrysler Town & Country won the Polk Automotive Loyalty Award in the minivan category for a record 12th-consecutive time in January. The creators of the minivan, Chrysler has been receiving this award since 2002. For 2012, 31 percent of all returning Town & Country minivan owners bought another Town & Country, according to Polk analysis. The award recognizes manufacturers for superior owner loyalty performance, which is determined when a household that owns a new vehicle returns to market and purchases or leases another new vehicle of the same model or make. In addition, for the eighth year in a row, a panel of consumer-minded Detroit News reader-judges selected the Town & Country the Detroit News Readers' Choice "Best Family Hauler" at the NAIAS. The Town & Country is the most awarded minivan ever.

Ram Truck Brand

The new Ram pickup truck – Motor Trend's 2013 Truck of the Year – extended its streak of year-over-year sales gains to 33-consecutive months. Sales of the Ram pickup truck were up 14 percent in January, the pickup truck's best January sales in six years. Sales of the Light Duty Ram pickup increased 23 percent while Heavy Duty Ram sales were up 11 percent.

On the heels of the significant Motor Trend award, the Ram 1500 was named 2013 North American Truck/Utility of the Year by a panel of automotive experts at the NAIAS in January. The award is unique and considered by many to be one of the world's most prestigious based on its diverse mix of 49 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada who serve as the voting jurors. In addition, the Ram 1500 was named Pickup Truck of the Year by Four Wheeler Magazine, a major off-road enthusiast publication, and by Autobytel.com in January.

The Ram 1500 also was named by an independent panel of journalists representing multicultural and mainstream media as the Urban Truck of the Year at the 17th Annual Urban Wheel Awards in January. Ram Truck brand sales were up 14 percent in January compared with the same month a year ago.

Jeep® Brand

Jeep brand sales were down 4 percent in January in the U.S. due to Jeep Liberty production ending in August. All other Jeep brand vehicles recorded sales gains during January compared with the same month a year ago. The Jeep Patriot compact SUV set a sales record for the month of January with its 32 percent sales gain. The Patriot's sales record comes on the heels of the model's best ever sales year in 2012. Sales of the Jeep Grand Cherokee were up 4 percent in January, the model's best January sales performance in seven years, while the Jeep Compass compact SUV posted a 33 percent sales gain, its best January sales in six years.

The Jeep brand unveiled the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, and Jeep Compass at the NAIAS in January. The new Grand Cherokee delivers a best-in-class 30 mpg highway courtesy of a new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine for North America and a new eight-speed transmission. The EcoDiesel V-6 boasts an unmatched driving range of more than 730 miles.

Ford Motor Company January Sales up 22 Percent, Best since 2006; Fusion, Escape Post Record January Sales

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

   Ford Motor Company's January U.S. sales increase 22 percent, with gains across the lineup – cars up 34 percent, utilities up 23 percent, and trucks up 11 percent
   Fusion up 65 percent versus year-ago levels – a record January sales month
   Escape has best January sales ever – sales increase 16 percent, topping last year's January record
   Explorer sales up 46 percent – best January sales since 2005
   America's best-selling pickup for 36 years running, F-Series posts a 22 percent gain

Ford Motor Company's (NYSE: F) January U.S. sales of 166,501 grew 22 percent year-over-year – with retail sales up 24 percent. Gains were made across the product lineup, with cars up 34 percent, utilities up 23 percent, and trucks up 11 percent for the month.

"Ford is off to a strong start this year, with Fusion and Escape delivering January sales records  and F-Series seeing a particularly strong reception this early in the year," said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. Sales of all-new Ford Fusion totaled 22,399 vehicles in January, 65 percent increase versus a year ago and Fusion's best January sales ever. Fusion broke its January 2011 sales record by 56 percent. In addition, Ford's small car sales were up 29 percent in January versus a year ago, with 23,171 Fiesta, Focus and C-MAX hybrid models sold, marking Ford's best January small car sales since 2000.

Escape established a January record, as well, with sales totaling 19,939, exceeding January 2012's record by 16 percent. Explorer sales of 14,554 increased 46 percent versus a year ago, marking Explorer's best January sales since 2005.  

America's best-selling pickup, the Ford F-Series, begins 2013 with a 22 percent increase versus last January. With 46,841 pickups sold, F-Series marks its 18th consecutive month of monthly sales increases. Transit Connect and E-Series also had strong starts to the year. Transit Connect sales were up 47 percent, marking record January sales total of 3,161 vehicles, while E-Series sales were up 18 percent, with 7,987 vehicles sold.

Subaru of America, Inc. Reports 21 Percent Growth In January Sales
- January 2013 sales of 27,663 represent a 21 percent increase over January 2012

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Subaru of America, Inc. today reported 27,663 vehicle sales for January 2013, which represents a 21 percent increase over January 2012.  These results build on strong sales from 2012 where Subaru achieved four consecutive years of sales increases and exceeded 300,000 annual sales in 2012 – a first in company history.  

Forester and Outback sales for January 2013 increased 28 and 16 percent respectively, over January 2012.  Outback and Legacy models were recently named Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.  XV Crosstrek, the new small SUV also added 2,764 sales to the month's total.

Porsche Reports Best January Sales Ever; 32 percent increase over last year

ATLANTA, Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars, Cayenne SUVs and the Panamera four-door sports sedan line-up in the United States, today announced record January sales of 3,358 vehicles. This compares to 2,550 vehicles sold in January 2012, an increase of 32 percent. The successful month follows Porsche's record-setting year in the U.S., with 35,043 vehicles sold in 2012.

The Cayenne SUV and 911 models contributed to the record January, with 1,500 Cayenne units sold (+51% over January 2012) and 877 units of the 911 sold (+28%). The Boxster/Cayman line also enjoyed an impressive performance with 393 units sold, for an increase of 127 percent over last year.

Hyundai Motor America Reports Record January Sales

COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Coming off a record 2012 sales year, Hyundai Motor America today announced a continuation of that momentum by setting a new all-time record for January sales with 43,713 units, up 2.4 percent versus 2012.  

Improved availability on key volume vehicles at Hyundai dealers across the nation played a substantial role in achieving yet another all-time monthly sales record.  Fleet mix was 15 percent for the month.    

The same trend held true with Hyundai Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicle sales as 2012's record January was immediately eclipsed this year with a best ever 5,393 CPO units, up 16.8 percent versus 2012.

Mitsubishi Motors Reports Outstanding January Sales For Outlander Sport
- Year-Over-Year Increases for All Core Models -

CYPRESS, Calif., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) today reported year-over-year sales increases for all of its core models in January.

Outlander Sport sales were 1,350 for the month, an increase of almost 21 percent compared to January 2012.  Sales of the fuel-efficient CUV, now manufactured in Normal, Illinois, showed an increase versus the prior year for the fifth consecutive month.

"Outlander Sport continues to resonate with consumers looking for fuel efficiency in a CUV that does not sacrifice style or performance," said MMNA President & CEO Yoichi Yokozawa.  "We'll launch a special edition Outlander Sport in March to commemorate 30 years of Mitsubishi sales in the U.S. and 25 years of production in Normal."

Overall Mitsubishi sales were down 1 percent compared to January 2012 due to discontinued models.  However, total sales of models currently in production were up more than 59 percent compared to January last year.  Mitsubishi i-MiEV sales improved to 257.

BMW Group U.S. Reports January 2013 Sales
-- BMW brand sales up 0.7 percent
-- MINI brand sales up 10.4 percent; best January ever
-- BMW Motorcycle sales up 9.7 percent

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported January sales of 20,195 vehicles, an increase of 2.3 percent from the 19,739 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago.

"After an historic December, January produced a good result showing our growth continuing," said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America, LLC. "In 2013 we'll have more new models, the right mix and better availability, so I'm very positive about the eleven months still ahead."

BMW Brand Sales
Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 0.7 percent in January for a total of 16,513 compared to 16,405 vehicles sold in January, 2012.

In January, best performing vehicles include all of BMW's light trucks. The X3, X5, and X6 Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV) continued to show strong growth with sales up 41.3 percent to 6,469 units. The X3 SAV – on sale in the U.S. for two years – is up 18.9 percent to 2,005 units; the X5 SAV, up 56.5 percent to 4,084 units and the X6 SAV is up 34.8 percent to 380 units.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles
In January, sales of BMW used vehicles (including certified pre-owned and pre-owned) increased 13.9 percent to 13,322 vehicles compared to the 11,699 vehicles sold in January, 2012.

MINI Brand Sales
MINI USA reported the best January ever with sales of 3,682 automobiles, an increase of 10.4 percent from the 3,334 sold in the same month a year ago.

MINI Pre-Owned Vehicles
In January, sales of MINI used automobiles (including MINI NEXT certified pre-owned and pre-owned) increased 70 percent to 1,542 automobiles from the 907 sold in January, 2012.  

BMW Motorrad Sales
BMW Motorrad USA reported sales of 597 motorcycles in January, an increase of 9.7 percent from the total of 544 motorcycles sold in January, 2012.

January's growth was spearheaded by the S 1000 RR, up 120 percent with sales of 101 compared to 46 units in 2012. The newly upgraded F 700 GS also grew, up 89 percent with sales of 49 units compared to 26 a year ago, while the recently introduced HP4 superbike and C 650 GT maxi scooter helped maintain the positive momentum from last year with 20 and 47 units respectively.

Nissan Reports U.S. Sales Up 2 Percent In January
-Nissan division led by strong gains by Pathfinder and Sentra records division's best January ever -
- Infiniti up on heavy demand for JX, QX -

FRANKLIN, Tenn., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today reported January U.S. sales of 80,919 units versus 79,313 units a year earlier, up 2 percent. Nissan Division sales in January totaled 73,793, up 1.8 percent over the prior year making it the division's best January ever. Sales of Infiniti vehicles were 7,126, an increase of 4.9 percent over last January.

NISSAN HIGHLIGHTS

   Pathfinder SUV sales rose 202 percent to 6,281 units, led by the all-new 2013 Pathfinder that went on sale in November.

   Sales of the Sentra, led by the all-new 2013 model, totaled 8,979 units, marking an increase of 27 percent year-over-year.

   Versa, the industry's leading subcompact, delivered 10,270 sales, up 9 percent versus last year making for its best January ever.

   Based on a shortage of inventory during the transition to U.S. assembly of the all-electric 2012 model year Nissan LEAF, the vehicle recorded sales of 650 units in January, down 3.8 percent from the prior year. The 2012 LEAFs are now almost completely sold out, and the upgraded 2013 LEAF will go on sale later this month.

Honda January Sales Gain Powered by Award-Winning Accord; Acura Sales Increase Again Fueled by RDX and ILX
Honda Division sales up 12.7 percent, Acura sales up 13.2 percent

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- American Honda today reported January 2013 U.S. sales of 93,626 units, an increase of 12.8 percent compared with January 2012. The Honda brand posted January 2013 sales of 84,137 units, an increase of 12.7 percent compared with January 2012. Acura U.S. January sales of 9,489 units increased 13.2 percent compared with January 2012.


Sales of the all-new 2013 Honda Accord were up more than 75 percent from last year – with 10,000 more Accords sold this January than in January 2012. The totally revised Accord has already become one of the most decorated vehicles in Honda history, garnering a host of awards that include being named for a record 27th time to Car and Driver magazine's 10Best Cars list, as well as winning key comparison tests against its mid-size rivals in comparisons from Car and Driver and Cars.com/ USA Today/"MotorWeek".

   Sales of the all-new Accord are up 75.2 percent from last January with sales of 23,924 units
   Reflecting key changes, the new 2013 Crosstour sees sales jump 38.2 percent from last January
   Pilot sales are up 16.3 percent compared with last January, with sales of 7,405 units

   RDX sets its ninth-consecutive monthly sales record, up over 181.6 percent from last January with sales of 2,489 units
   MDX was the top selling Acura model in January, with sales of 2,575 units
   ILX was again the top selling Acura sedan in January with sales of 1,558 units

Infiniti U.S. Sales Up 4.9 Percent In January
- Sales of Infiniti Luxury Crossovers and Sport Utilities Increase More than 70 Percent -

FRANKLIN, Tenn., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Infiniti today reported January sales of 7,126 units, an increase of 4.9 percent versus 6,796 units a year earlier.

With a 71 percent gain for the month, sales of Infiniti luxury crossovers and sport utility vehicles remained strong, led by the Infiniti QX full-size SUV with a 14.5 percent increase to 1,168 units, and the new Infiniti JX 7-passenger luxury crossover adding 1,970 incremental sales.

"After a strong close in December, we began our sponsorship of NCAA ® Men's Basketball in mid-January, which will continue to help drive traffic to our showrooms through the spring," said Ben Poore, vice president, Infiniti Americas. Mercedes-Benz USA January Sales Soar To Highest On Record At 24,059
Best-Ever Month for Mercedes-Benz models alone up 10.8%

MONTVALE, N.J., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) reported today sales of 24,059, a 10.7% increase over the 21,726 vehicles sold in January 2012 making it the greatest year start in the company's history.  The Mercedes-Benz model line alone marked its highest January numbers with sales of 22,501, up 10.8%.  


"We've set another record this January and are breaking into 2013 at a strong sales pace," said Steve Cannon, president & CEO of MBUSA.  "It's a historic time for the brand with product milestones that will drive our momentum.  Our new CLA, the star of our Super Bowl ad this weekend, will reset the entry point.  Stay tuned as product innovations continue throughout the year with the introductions of our completely redesigned E-Class and new generation of our flagship S-Class."

Strong demand for both the Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles and SUVs fueled sales for the month with the sporty C-Class – the gateway to the Mercedes-Benz brand for younger and first-time Mercedes-Benz buyers – as the volume leader posting sales of 7,214, up 10.6%.  The 9th generation E-Class followed with sales of 5,469 and the versatile M-Class rounded out the top three with sales of 2,928.      

For January, sales at the high-end increased as well with the S-Class up 19.5% and the SL-Class up 290% when compared to the same period last year.

The Sprinter model line started the year strong with sales of 1,077 for the month, a 16.6% increase from January 2012, and smart recorded sales of 481 vehicles.  

Sales of the high-performance AMG models were 495 for the month and sales of the company's BlueTEC diesel models finished the month at 1,054.  

Separately, through the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) program, MBUSA sold 8,159 vehicles in January; an increase of 17.5% when compared to January 2012 (sales of 6,945 vehicles).

Toyota Motor Sales Continues To Outpace The Industry In January
Hybrid sales up 45 percent: All-new Avalon and RAV4 post double-digit gains

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported January 2013 sales results of 157,725 units, an increase of 21.6 percent on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis. Unadjusted for 25 selling days in January 2013 versus 24 in January 2012, TMS sales were up 26.6 percent over the year-ago month.  

Toyota Division posted January total sales of 141,514 units, up 21 percent year-over-year on a DSR basis.  Volume-wise, Toyota Division sales increased 26.1 percent over January 2012.

"The sales pace we saw in the fourth quarter of last year rolled into January, exceeding our expectations for the industry," said Bill Fay, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. "Toyota started the year off strong, with total sales up over 26 percent, more than double the industry average. With the 2013 Avalon and 2013 RAV4 off to a great start, our focus remains firmly on new products and taking care of our customers."

Lexus Division reported January total sales of 16,211, up 26.8 percent and 32.1 percent on a DSR and volume basis, respectively.

MAZDA ANNOUNCES JANUARY SALES RESULTS

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported January U.S. sales of 21,319 vehicles, representing a decrease of 11.2 percent versus last year.

Key January sales notes:

   Mazda CX-5 achieved second-best month ever with 5,244 vehicles sold.
   Mazda3 hits second best January sales since its launch in 2003 with 8,074 vehicles. SKYACTIV® 1 TECHNOLOGY accounted for 74.0 percent of Mazda3 sales in January.
   Mazda5 records best January sales ever with an increase of 61.4 percent year-over-year totaling 1,880 vehicles sold.
   In the U.S., Mazda's total SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY vehicle sales for January (comprised of the all-new 2014 Mazda6, CX-5 and certain models of Mazda3) account for 56.0 percent of the company's total sales for the month.
   The all-new 2014 Mazda6 began sales in January with 666 vehicles. The second model to launch with the full suite of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and the new 2.5L SKYACTIV-G engine, dealers cannot carry enough inventory to satisfy demand at this point.
   January 2013 marked the best January month of sales for CX-9, accounting for a 1.4 percent increase YOY and a total of 2,116 units sold.

Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) reported January sales of 2,023 vehicles, down 22.0 percent versus June of last year.
