American Suzuki Motor Corporation Announces December 2012 Automobile Sales Of 1,946 Units

Year-over-year decline of 620 units driven by decrease in total inventory as company's remaining U.S. automobiles are allocated to auto dealers

BREA, Calif., Jan. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/
-- American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) reported today December 2012 automobile sales of 1,946 units, a 620 unit decline compared to the same period last year. The results were attributed to a decrease in available inventory as the company allocates its remaining automobiles in the U.S. to retail auto dealerships.

"Now is a great time to purchase a Suzuki: 98% of Suzuki auto dealers have confirmed they will remain parts and continued service locations, and many are offering attractive financing options and incentives," said M. Freddie Reiss, Chief Restructuring Officer for American Suzuki Motor Corporation.

A final shipment of 2,500 vehicles is being shipped from Japan this month and will be distributed to auto dealers around the country.

Full-year 2012 auto sales declined 5% compared with 2011, with total vehicle sales of 25,358 units.

ASMC announced plans on November 5, 2012 to realign its business to focus on the long-term growth of its Motorcycles/ATV and Marine divisions and to wind down and discontinue new automobile sales in the continental U.S. ASMC will, however, continue to honor all automobile warranties according to their terms, including the warranties of newly purchased vehicles.

In fact, 215 of ASMC's 219 U.S. automotive dealers have agreed to the terms of the company's Dealer Settlement Agreement to help provide automobile parts and service without interruption after the company's restructuring. This number includes all of the top 50 U.S. dealers and represents more than 98% of the total volume of ASMC's continental U.S. automobile market.

Additional information regarding ASMC's business realignment under Chapter 11 can be found at the Company's website, www.suzuki.com or via an information hotline at 1-877-465-4819.

Hyundai Motor America Posts All-Time Full Year Sales Record
- Best December ever
- Sonata and Elantra both finish in the Top 10 in car retail sales
- Sonata and Elantra both top 200K in sales
- Sonata, Elantra, Veloster, Genesis, Equus have best-ever sales years

COSTA MESA, Calif., Jan. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America today announced record sales of 59,435 vehicles in December, a 17 percent total sales increase and three percent retail sales increase compared with the same record-setting period a year ago.

For the year, Hyundai sales were up nine percent versus 2011 in both retail and total sales.  Sales to fleet accounts represented just 10 percent of total sales for 2012, among the lowest in the industry.

"The holiday selling season, in conjunction with improved consumer confidence, made for a successful December," said Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of sales. "Our momentum over the last several months, paired with improved inventory levels and the launch of seven new or refreshed products in 2012, positions us for continued growth in the new year, especially with the seven-passenger version of the new Santa Fe set to launch in the next few weeks."

The Alabama-built Sonata and Elantra, two of the top-10 retail-selling cars in 2012, once again set full-year records with sales of 230,605 units, up two percent and 202,034 units, up eight percent, respectively. Sonata Hybrid sales were up 74 percent for the year. Veloster finished the year up 276 percent with a strong showing of 34,862 sales, best ever, and the recently refreshed Accent saw sales gains of 10 percent. The all-new Azera continues to sell at a quick pace and saw sales gains of 453 percent for the year.

With the North American International Auto Show just around the corner, Hyundai is making plans to reveal the new design direction for its premium rear-wheel drive lineup.  In 2012, Hyundai's premium Genesis and Equus models continued to surprise and delight more and more consumers, experiencing their fifth consecutive year of sales growth. Hyundai's six percent retail market share in the premium segments in which it competes now exceeds Hyundai's overall five percent retail share of the total industry. Genesis delivered 33,973 sales for the year, an increase of three percent over 2011, with Equus sales up 24 percent to 3,972. Both models set annual sales records, while Hyundai's total rear-wheel drive car sales of 37,945 places it above many established luxury nameplates in this category.

"We closed 2012 with strong demand in both volume and premium segments, and all-time sales records for December and the full year," said John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America.  "2013 will mark our first full year of three-shift U.S. production for Sonata, Elantra, and Santa Fe, which will allow us to better meet the demand we're seeing from American car buyers for our three most popular vehicles."

Porsche Reports Best-Ever Sales in 2012; 21 percent increase over 2011
Record global and U.S. sales fueled by Cayenne, 911 models

ATLANTA, Jan. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars, Cayenne SUVs and the Panamera four-door sports sedan line-up in the United States, today announced it has achieved an all-time record for U.S. sales, with 35,043 cars sold in the U.S. in 2012. This compares to 29,023 cars sold in the U.S. in 2011, an increase of 21 percent. The previous record year for Porsche in the U.S. was 2007 when PCNA sold 34,693 cars. For December, PCNA sold 2,952 cars, an increase of 61 percent.

While final figures for Porsche AG global sales are not yet available, the company already surpassed its previous record of 118,868 in November, after selling 128,978 new vehicles to customers around the world by the end of that month.

Strong demand for the new 911 Carrera and Carrera S Coupe and Cabriolet models, which went on sale 2012, contributed to the successful year.  PCNA sold 8,528 911s in 2012, compared to 6,016 in 2011, an increase of 42 percent.  In 2013, Porsche will continue to roll out additional new models of the 7th generation 911, including the new Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, which go on sale this month and will be joined in March by the new Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S Cabriolet.

Cayenne sales also continued to be extremely strong, heading into the fifth year for the Cayenne model line.  Porsche sold 15,545 Cayenne SUVs in 2012 compared to 12,978 in 2011, an increase of 20 percent.  Ten percent of the Cayenne models sold in 2012 were Diesel models, even though it just went on sale in September.  The Cayenne continues to be a cornerstone of the Porsche lineup; in addition to the Diesel and GTS models added in 2012, the lineup will continue to grow in 2013 with the addition of the range-topping Turbo S, which will be shown for the first time at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 14, 2013 and will go on sale this Spring.

Certified Pre-Owned Sales finished 2012 at 9,512 units, up 14 percent over 2011.  The Porsche Certified Pre-Owned program continues to offer the opportunity for customers to experience a Porsche at many different price points.

"2012 was truly a momentous year for Porsche in the U.S.," said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO, Porsche Cars North America. "Not only did we launch the all-new, seventh-generation 911, the completely redesigned Boxster and our first diesel model, we set records in nearly all aspects of our business, achieving top-tier results in many high-ranking industry quality and customer satisfaction studies while growing our share in the luxury market. Given that we achieved this with only a half-year of sales of the new Boxster and without any Cayman production, we are optimistic about the prospect of another successful year in 2013.  We hope to solidify our position as the world's strongest Porsche market and we look forward to the introduction of several new products in 2013, including the Cayenne Turbo S and Cayman this spring."
