I HAVE A 1993 FORD RANGER, 3.0 AUTOMATIC AND I BELIEVE I HAVE A GAS LEAK FROM ONE OF THE FUEL LINES COMING FROM THE TANK TO THE ENGINE. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND HOW TOUGH IS IT TO REPLACE THEM.
THANKS.

Yeah thats a common problem especially on a 20 year old truck...Gas leaks can be very dangerous...(Fuel lines and Brake lines)
"WHEN YOU ARE WORKING ON ANY FUEL LINES,TANK ETC. WORK IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA"DON'T WORK IN A GARAGE WITH NO VENTILATION....
I would start at the gas tank on your Ranger and work forward expecting the worst condition..The top of the gas tank usually rust's/rots out and if does your cost will will escolate accordingly..ie a Tank and sending unit/with fuel pump...Being carefull that you don't break the fuel tank straps....
Drop the tank and if the tank is not rusted or rotted near the sending unit and pump assy...Leave it alone...you can replace all the lines with stainless steel you can get from the parts store..If there is a part that is rotted replace the complete fuel line..Don't piece it in with rubber hose Saftey, because you will be back under your truck doing the same thing in a few weeks...That being said..
When you get to the fuel filter replace it and the the lines to the injection unit. If that line is not rusted leave it alone, but check the condition of it... Once you've done that leave the line open to purge any contamenets in the fuel line.. to do that just cycle the key on/off a couple times "Don't forget to put a shop towel or something to catch the fuel"..Be carrfull you don't want any fires...you may need a special fuel line tool to remove it....any parts store should have the little plastic fuel line removing tool...(tool is not expensive)
If you have to replace the tank, the fuel pump and sending unit are one piece, and expensive...Word of advice, be carefull around the top of the fuel tank....in fact if it is not rusted or rotted you may want to clean the top of the tank and use a rubber base under coat spray the top of the tank...
While you are under your Ranger, you may want to look at the brake lines also..They were exposed to the same condition as the fuel lines...
Word of advice don't replace any fuel line with rubber hose that's just a band aid...Good Luck Bob
