Hello,I recently got a new job offer to haul new RV's (ball&5th wheel)from Portland Or. to all parts of Canada and west coast usa. The job would require me to have a 1-ton quad cab(for sleeping) 4x4 diesel. I am looking for a truck in the 2000-2005ish range. Any advice about best Fuel economy, Reilabilty, Power, ect. would be awesome. I've seen a review at wwww.popularmechanics.com/cars/reviews/trucks/4230317 that stated Chevy had the best mpg by far and best power to boot. But this was done on the 2008 class, which is alittle out of my price range. I'm thinking that chevy just made improvment to there diesel motor recently and dont think they were the "Ones" to have back in the earleir 2000's. Thanks again
2000-2003 Ford 7.3 diesel. Had 2002 that was nothing short of amazing. The transmissions are not the best, but can be rebuilt to be much stronger. They are not the fastest diesel out there, but considered by many to be the best diesel EVER built. When towing, do not drag race, truck won't like it. Transmission will either blow at 30-40k miles when towing, or last forever. 2004-2007 Duramax. Our 2004 with 70,00 miles on it was amazing. 40,000 miles from stock tires, still didn't need brakes, towed 15,000# like it wasn't even there for over 20,000 of those miles. Allison transmission very strong, insanely smooth, will last forever if you're not an idiot who chips it. 20mpg on highway at 65 unloaded, around 10-12 towing, depending on load and frontal area.
