American Honda Reports August Sales

TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- American Honda Motor *** Inc., posted August sales of 108,729 vehicles, a decrease of 30.0 percent, based on the daily selling rate*, the company announced today. The decrease in monthly sales reflects elevated August 2009 results from the federal government's Car Allowance Rebate System, or "Cash for Clunkers." American Honda year-to-date sales reached 815,075, an increase of 1.5 percent versus last year.

Honda Division posted August sales of 97,195, a decrease of 33.4 percent versus August 2009. The Pilot and Odyssey both posted sales increases, up 13.1 percent and 8.7 percent, respectively. The Accord was the top-selling Honda model for August with sales of 25,148, followed by the Civic with 22,803. August 23rd also marked the start of sales for the all-new CR-Z sport hybrid coupe.

"We've known that August comparisons would be irrelevant due to the 'Cash for Clunkers' program last year," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "The good news is that we continue to see increasing demand for Honda products as customers seek even greater value."

Acura Division posted August sales of 11,534, an increase of 24.6 percent versus August 2009, and year-to-date sales reached 85,668, an increase of 24.1 percent. The MDX was the top-selling Acura model for the month with sales of 4,386, up 61.8 percent. The RDX also posted strong sales, up 75.1 percent.

*The daily selling rate (DSR) is calculated with 25 days for August 2010 versus 26 days for August 2009. Year-to-date, the DSR is calculated with 203 days for 2010 and 204 days for 2009. All percentages reflect DSR.

Hyundai Motor America Reports August Sales

- Retail market share of 5.3 percent sets all-time high - 20th consecutive month of year-over-year retail share increases

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America today announced sales of 53,603, down 11 percent compared with the all-time sales record set in August 2009, when the successful "Cash for Clunkers" program was in place. Still, August marked the third best volume month in company history, saw a 5.3 percent retail market share -- the highest market share ever achieved -- and delivered the 20th consecutive month of retail market share gains. For the year, Hyundai has reported cumulative sales of 363,491, up 17 percent versus the same period in 2009, and remains on track to establish an all-time sales record for the full year.

"Even with an erratic stock market, sluggish home sales and faltering consumer confidence over the past several months, Hyundai continues to significantly outperform the industry and gain market share," said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America's vice president of national sales. "Consumer demand for our products remains strong, and as we take aggressive action to increase production of high-demand vehicles and improve dealer supply, we feel we're well-positioned for growth over the remaining four months of this year. We're preparing to launch our flagship Equus sedan and are introducing three additional new products to our lineup in the fourth quarter, backed by an ambitious media plan to ensure we maintain our momentum in the face of challenging market conditions."

On a year-over-year basis, Elantra, Sonata and Tucson sales increased 21 percent 50 percent and 139 percent, respectively. Genesis set another all-time sales record in August and is up 27 percent for the year - this marks the 14th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains for Genesis. The strength of this broad product lineup and the overall reduction in incentive spending is continuing to have a positive impact on residual values.

BMW Group U.S. Reports August 2010 Sales

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported August sales of 23,965 vehicles, a decrease of 1.6 percent from the 24,343 vehicles sold last year. Year-to-date, the BMW Group also reported a sales volume of 168,940 vehicles, up 5.6 percent from the 160,044 units sold last year.

"As predicted, we are seeing a slowdown in the market and do not expect the second half of the year to be as strong as the first half," said Jim O'Donnell, President of BMW of North America, LLC. "Despite this, building momentum throughout the year and narrowing the gap with our competitors is still our plan. The new 5 Series is now part of our model lineup complementing the segment leading 7 Series, Z4 Roadster and 3 Series. We are also seeing continual growth in the SAV segment with the X5 and X6, as intended."

BMW Brand Sales

Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 1.6 percent for a total of 19,540 vehicles from the 19,232 units sold last year. Year-to-date, BMW sales were up 7.8 percent to 139,236 vehicles from the 129,176 units sold last year.

In August, the best performing vehicles included the 1 Series, up 52.5 percent to 1,394 units and the 7 Series, up 42 percent to 1,224 units. The X5 and X6 continue to perform very well with an increase of 21.4 percent and 34.4 percent, respectively.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles

Sales of BMW's used vehicles (including certified pre-owned and pre-owned) increased 3.2 percent to 14,266 vehicles from the 13,830 units sold last year. Year-to-date, used vehicle sales were up 5.5 percent to 113,061 vehicles from the 107,137 units sold last year.

MINI Brand Sales

MINI USA reported sales of 4,425 automobiles, a decrease of 13.4 percent from the 5,111 cars sold last year. Year-to-date, MINI USA also reported sales of 29,704 automobiles, a decrease of 3.8 percent from the 30,868 units sold last year. The drop in sales was again affected by the Cash for Clunkers program that took place in July and August of 2009 and boosted sales volume.

MINI sales will gain momentum as the year progresses due the updated 2011 model year vehicles arriving at dealerships in two weeks. Additionally, the brand is seeing significant customer interest in the Countryman as MINI dealers have just begun taking orders for the new model coming out in January 2011.

Porsche Reports August Sales in U.S.

Cayenne Regains Sales Lead, Panamera Continues to Enjoy Strong Results

ATLANTA, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars, Cayenne SUVs and the Panamera Gran Turismo line-up in the United States, today announced August sales in the U.S. of 2,032 units compared to the same period last year when it sold 1,526, up 33 percent.

Most noteworthy for the month were the results for Porsche's new-generation 2011 Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo, which regained their volume lead by posting sales of 775, compared to last year when sales were 509, an increase of 52 percent. The Cayenne achieved these results despite the fact that the 2011 Cayenne and Cayenne S Hybrid are yet to join Porsche's SUV line-up. Both will come to the U.S. market later this month.

Also notable was the continuing strong performance of Porsche's four-door Panamera Gran Turismo with sales of 627. This new model line for Porsche went on sale last October, and its three eight-cylinder models were joined by two six-cylinder versions last month.

So far in 2010, Porsche's overall year-to-date sales are 15,719 versus last year when they were 12,729, an increase of 23 percent.

For the month, Porsche's Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicle sales were 609, compared to 567 for the same period last year.

Ford Market Share Gains Continue in August as Buyers Turn to Lineup of High-Quality, Fuel-Efficient Products

DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --   --  Ford, Lincoln and Mercury August sales totaled 157,503 - lower than
     strong year-ago levels
--  Ford's year-to-date sales up 18 percent versus year ago - double the
     growth of the overall industry
--  Market share continues to grow; August marked the 22nd time in the
last 23 months Ford's retail share increased as buyers continue
turning to Ford's fresh lineup of high-quality, fuel-efficient
     vehicles
--  Ford announces fourth quarter production plan

Consumer demand for Ford's fresh lineup of high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles helped the company continue to grow its retail market share in August for the 22nd time in the last 23 months.

Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealers delivered 157,503 new vehicles in August, down 11 percent versus a year ago, when Ford outpaced the industry during the "Cash for Clunkers" sales program.

Year-to-date, Ford sales totaled 1.28 million, up 18 percent - double the growth of the overall industry.

"Ford continues to outperform the overall industry," said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. "In this market, consumers are looking for vehicles that offer industry-leading quality, fuel economy, safety and technologies, and growing numbers of them are turning to Ford."

Last August, the Ford Focus and Escape were among the industry's best sellers during the "Cash for Clunkers" program. Even though both products had strong sales results this August, they had large declines against last year's record sales.

Products with higher sales than a year ago include:
--  Ford's popular F-Series truck, which posted one of its highest sales
months in the last two years. August sales totaled 47,652, up 5
percent versus a year ago. Year-to-date, F-Series sales totaled
338,446, making it the only U.S. vehicle to eclipse the 300,000
     milestone in 2010.
 --  Sales for Ford's E-Series van totaled 10,251, up 92 percent versus a
year ago. The E-Series van has been America's best-selling commercial
van for 31 straight years; year-to-date sales totaled 74,608.
--  Taurus sales were 5,122 in August, up 51 percent. The all-new Taurus
debuted a year ago and has posted strong year-to-year increases every
month since introduction. Taurus year-to-date sales are more than
     double last year's sales.
--  Although total sales were down slightly from last August, Mustang
retail sales are up 15 percent.

Sales Outlook and North American Production

In the fourth quarter of 2010, Ford plans to produce 570,000 vehicles. In the fourth quarter of 2009, the company Ford produced 574,000.

"The Ford plan is to match capacity with the real demand, and we continue to monitor the key economic indicators as we make adjustments," Czubay said.

In the third quarter, Ford plans to produce 570,000 vehicles, unchanged from the previously announced level.

Note: The sales data included in this release and the accompanying tables are based largely on data reported by dealers representing their sales to retail and fleet customers.
