Chevrolet-Buick-GMC-Cadillac Sales Increase 20 Percent in April

DETROIT, May 3 /PRNewswire/ --   --  Combined Retail Sales for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac Increase
     33 percent
--  Seventh Consecutive Month of Combined Sales Gains for GM's Four Brands
--  Calendar-Year-to-Date Sales for GM's Four Brands are up 31 Percent

A combined retail sales increase of 33 percent for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac propelled total sales for GM's four brands in the U.S. to 183,091 during the month. This represents a 20-percent increase from a year ago. For the calendar year-to-date, combined total sales for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac are up 31 percent.

The continued year-over-year sales increases are largely being driven by the company's launch products, which now represent one of every four GM vehicles sold at retail. Year-to-date, combined sales of the Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Equinox, Buick LaCrosse, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX are up nearly 300 percent, at 110,176, compared to the vehicles they replaced.

"Clearly, our launch vehicles are hitting the mark with consumers who are looking for bold styling, quality, safety and fuel efficiency," said Steve Carlisle, vice president of U.S. Sales Operations. "But our results aren't limited to just our newest vehicles. Sales of our full-size pickups and our mid-sized crossovers continue to strengthen."

Retail sales of GM's full-size pickups, the Chevrolet Silverado, Avalanche and GMC Sierra were up a combined 20 percent in April, and are up 8 percent year-to-date. Retail sales of GM's mid-sized crossovers - the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia - increased 26 percent in April and are 15 percent higher year-to-date.

"The good news is that we have more on the way, including the all-new Buick Regal this spring and the Chevrolet Cruze in the third quarter," added Carlisle.

Chevrolet dealers reported sales of 135,369 - 17 percent higher than April, 2009. Retail sales for the brand were 32 percent higher for the month. Retail sales of the Chevrolet Malibu surged 38 percent for the month - the seventh consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases. The Chevrolet Silverado, Equinox, Traverse and Camaro all posted year-over-year retail sales increases of 20 percent or more (read more).

Buick sales rose 36 percent for the month to 12,181 - the seventh consecutive month of double digit year-over-year sales increases. Retail sales for Buick rose 42 percent during April. Buick LaCrosse had its best retail month since 2005, with an increase of 237 percent for the month. Year-to-date sales of the LaCrosse have increased 154 percent, with 42 percent of sales coming from consumers who replaced a non-GM vehicle (read more).

GMC sales of 24,224 were 18 percent higher than last year, while retail sales for the brand were up 37 percent. Sales were led by retail sales of the GMC Terrain, which were up 537 percent for the month versus the vehicle it replaced. For the year, sales of the Terrain are up 313 percent. The Terrain continues to attract new customers to the brand, where 46 percent of buyers are trading in a non-GM make.

Cadillac sales increased 36 percent to 11,317, while retail sales improved 31 percent for the month. April retail sales of the SRX were 504 percent higher than a year ago, and are up 405 percent for the year. The SRX continues to bring new customers to the Cadillac brand. Year-to-date, 49 percent of SRX buyers traded in a competitive brand .

Month-end dealer inventory in the U.S. stood at about 430,000 units, which is about 3,000 higher compared to March 2010, and about 311,000 lower than April 2009.

Sales Led by All-New 2011 Sorento CUV as Kia Brand Continues to Rise

IRVINE, Calif., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced April sales of 30,036 units sold, a 17.3-percent increase over the same period last year. Year-to-date sales are up 12.9-percent with the all-new Sorento CUV topping the list as Kia's best-selling vehicle, continuing its run of impressive sales results since arriving in dealerships in early January. As the brand's first vehicle to be assembled(1) in the U.S., the Sorento posted sales of 8,486 units. Other top-selling models include the recent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety "Top Safety Pick" Forte compact and the highly personalizable Soul, achieving 5,807 and 5,223 units sold, respectively.

"Kia Motors' exceptional sales results in April follow our best first quarter in company history and reflect how consumers are noticing the brand's quality products with unparalleled design like the all-new Sorento," said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of KMA and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG). "With three all-new vehicle models on the horizon this year, including Sportage, Forte five-door and Optima, the company stands to continue its momentum in 2010."

Kia Motors is in the midst of a dramatic, design-led transformation, which has been delivering dynamically styled vehicles in several important segments at exactly the right time, contributing to the brand's continued gains in U.S. market share. With three new vehicle introductions and several other key initiatives planned for 2010, Kia is poised to continue its momentum and will continue to build the brand through design innovation, quality, value, safety features and with new technology such as UVO powered by Microsoft®(2), an advanced hands-free in-car communication and entertainment system (to be available in select Kia models in the U.S. beginning in summer 2010).

Hyundai Motor America Reports Its Best-Ever April

- New products, lower fleet sales and declining incentives prove to be a winning combination

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America today announced an all-time sales record for the month of April as early consumer response to the company's all-new Sonata and Tucson models shattered all expectations. Total sales through the first four months of 2010 also represent an all-time record for Hyundai.

In April, the company sold 44,023 vehicles, up 30 percent versus one year ago, marking the sixteenth consecutive month of year-over-year retail market share gains for Hyundai.

"Despite an overall industry increase in the level of sales to fleet accounts, we remain extremely focused on reducing our fleet mix, improving the quality of our market share, and driving more retail volume through Hyundai dealerships," said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America's vice present of national sales. "Widespread acceptance of our new products and growing recognition of our brand's inherent value has also allowed us to significantly reduce incentive spending at a time when some of our top competitors were taking a different approach," Zuchowski added.

"For the second straight month, our all-new Sonata is the third-best selling mid-size car in the country in retail sales, well ahead of strong rivals such as Nissan Altima, Chevy Malibu and Ford Fusion. We're glad to see Sonata's unique combination of great design and segment-leading 35 mpg fuel economy is resonating with America's car buyers."

On a year-over-year basis, Sonata and Tucson sales increased 57 and 271 percent, respectively. Santa Fe was up 59 percent, and Genesis was up nine percent, marking the 10th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gain for Genesis.

--  Ford gains retail market share for the 18th time in the last 19

     fuel-efficient vehicles

Ford continued to post strong sales and market share gains in April, with Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealers delivering 162,996 new vehicles in April - a 25 percent increase versus a year ago. It marks the fifth month in a row Ford sales have increased more than 20 percent. Year-to-date sales totaled 591,592, up 34 percent.

In April, Ford retail sales were up 32 percent versus a year ago, and Ford gained retail market share for the 18th time in the last 19 months. Fleet sales were up 13 percent. Ford is benefiting from a fresh lineup of new, high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles delivering industry-leading levels of safety and smart design.

"Customers are benefiting from our strong new product lineup," said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing Sales and Service. "Our laser focus on quality and dependability is increasing Ford resale values at a higher rate than the overall industry, bringing real value to Ford customers at trade-in time and driving industry-leading customer satisfaction and higher market share."

On average, resale values of Ford vehicles have increased 23 percent versus last year, outpacing the industry average by 4 percentage points, according to the latest North American Dealers Association auction data. Ford vehicles now have the fewest number of defects of any full-line manufacturer and the highest customer satisfaction with vehicle quality among all major automakers, according to a first quarter study by RDA Group of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Once again, sales were higher throughout Ford's lineup in April - continuing a trend that began in December. Cars were up 10 percent versus a year ago, utilities were up 33 percent, and trucks were up 38 percent.  Additional Sales Highlights
--  Ford Fusion, Motor Trend's Car of the Year, set an April sales record
of 18,971, up 4 percent versus the previous record set last year.

 --  With sales of 40,946, Ford's F-Series posted a 42 percent sales
increase in April. Ford's leadership position in the truck market is
strengthened by the arrival of the 2011 model F-Series Super Duty -
the most capable, fuel-efficient heavy-duty pickup in the industry. In
April, sales of the all-new 2011 Super Duty were more than double
Ford's plan for the month. F-Series has been America's best-selling
truck for 33 years in a row and best-selling vehicle (car or truck)
for 28 years in a row. F-Series sales have increased five months in a
row, and April's increase was the largest.

its highest sales month ever. ADT Security Services,
the world's largest electronic security provider, plans to place an
order for 3,000 Transit Connects, representing half of its North
American fleet. This move will save ADT an estimated $5.3 million
annually in fuel costs while reducing carbon emissions. In a separate
announcement, the city of Boston last week became the first
municipality in America to approve the Transit Connect cab for taxi
use. Meanwhile, the production of the battery-electric Transit Connect
     begins later this year.

NEW YORK, May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Daimler AG (stock exchange abbreviation DAI) today reported U.S. sales of 18,908 Mercedes-Benz and smart vehicles. All sales figures in this release are on an unadjusted basis unless otherwise noted.

Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported April sales of 18,228 vehicles, an increase of 25.1%, beginning the second quarter with a 25.5% increase on a year-to-date basis. 17,628 passenger cars, light truck vehicles and 600 Sprinter vans are included in this total.

Continued strong demand in both the Mercedes passenger car and light-truck categories fueled the sales volume for the month. In the sedan category, the popular C-Class - the gateway to the Mercedes-Benz brand for younger as well as first-time Mercedes-Benz buyers - maintained its lead as the volume leader with sales of 4,624. The 9th generation E-Class continued to exhibit strong momentum with sales of 4,528 (up 152.3%) and the versatile M-Class SUV followed suit with sales of 2,269.

On a year-to-date basis, the company sold 68,794 new vehicles, an increase of 25.5% over last year.

smart USA recorded 680 sales in April 2010, an increase over March 2010, continuing the upward trajectory of sales in 2010. This is the fourth consecutive month that smart USA has recorded month-over-month increases. The smart USA street tour, crossing the country since February to put consumers behind the wheel of the smart fortwo, and a renewed marketing emphasis are contributing to the traction in the marketplace.

Detailed vehicle sales information for MBUSA will be announced in a separate press release issued by Mercedes-Benz USA.

BMW GROUP U.S. Reports April 2010 Sales

- BMW continues to lead key premium segments - new 5 Series introduction in June to renew challenge in one more - MINI sales continue to outperform the premium small car segment

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported April sales of 21,111 vehicles, an increase of 9 percent from the 19,362 vehicles sold in the same month of 2009. Year to date, the BMW Group also reported a total sales volume of 76,162 vehicles, up 7.9 percent compared to 70,606 vehicles sold in the first four months of last year.

BMW Brand Sales

The BMW brand continued its positive results in April with good sales in the key volume segments of the premium market. In total, sales increased 10 percent to reach 17,268 vehicles. Year to date, sales increased 8.8 percent to 63,591 vehicles.

In the important midsize sports sedan segment, BMW maintained its leading position with sales of the 3 Series sedan up 63.7 percent to 5,464 units. After just one year in the market, the BMW 7 Series also kept its lead in the large luxury vehicle segment with sales up 96.3 percent to 1,555 units in April. With the 1 Series and Z4, BMW also continued its lead in two smaller volume segments of the premium market.

"April's positive results are an achievement keeping in mind we have two high volume models in short supply due to the end of their lifecycles," said Jim O'Donnell, President of BMW of North America, LLC. "Both the X3 and 5 Series are in transition and we anxiously await the new 5 on sale in June as it has received superb early reviews in comparisons with the competition. The all-new X3 arrives at the end of this year and we anticipate strong demand for this new entry in the hot premium smaller crossover segment."

To prepare for the production of the X3, BMW's plant in Spartanburg, SC undergoes a $750 million expansion to be completed in late summer of this year. The local manufacturing of the X3 will provide the company a range of opportunities when the vehicle is introduced to the market.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles

In April, sales of BMW's used vehicles (including certified pre-owned vehicles) sold through BMW's dealership network increased 23 percent to 15,472 vehicles. Year-to-date, used vehicle sales were up 6 percent to 55,320 vehicles.

MINI Brand Sales

While the premium small car segment is lagging other segments, MINI continued to show a strong performance and increased its segment share. In April, 3,843 MINI's were sold, up 5.1 percent versus the 3,657 units reported in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, MINI USA also reported sales of 12,571 automobiles, an increase of 3.3 percent.

MINI's long term growth prospects continue to be strong due to macro economic developments in the U.S. To prepare for this future growth, MINI's product range will double from three to six models starting in 2011 and the dealer network is being expanded to 100 exclusive stores by summer of this year with dealers investing a combined $200 million this year and last.

Audi Sets April U.S. Sales Record With Second-Best Monthly Performance In Its History

-- Audi 2010 April sales increased 33% over 2009; only December 2006 provided better monthly results -- Audi Q5 sales set a single-month record -- A3 TDI accounts for nearly 60% of line's sales, exceeding expectations

HERNDON, Va., May 3 /PRNewswire/
-- After the best first quarter in the brand's history, Audi today maintained its 2010 momentum with record April sales in the U.S. For the month, sales of Audi cars and SUVs increased 32.9% compared to April 2009.

The April 2010 results were buoyed by record monthly sales for the Audi Q5 and the A5 Cabriolet, and they marked the second-best U.S. sales in any month for Audi. In April 2010, Audi sold 9,319 luxury cars and SUVs. This topped the previous record, set in 2007, of 8,106 vehicles sold. The best month for Audi in the U.S. was December 2006 when sales reached 11,897 vehicles.

Audi A3 sales jumped 144% from a year earlier. That gain was largely due to strong consumer demand for the A3 TDI model, which is the reigning 2010 Green Car of the Year. Another positive product story for Audi came from sales of the A6 luxury sedan which increased 105.2% over last April.

"Consumers of luxury goods are clearly buying again," said Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen. "As these buyers return to the car market they are seeking out cars representing substance, leading-edge engineering and sophisticated styling. Those priorities are the fundamental reason Audi has set record sales in three of the past four months."

Audi A5 continues its single-month sales record streak

The Audi A5 Cabriolet's popularity continued to grow, setting a monthly sales record of 797 cars in April (including Audi S5 Cabriolet results). In April, the overall A5 model line (including S5 and A5/S5 Cabriolet sales) posted a year-over-year increase of 171.5%. Without the A5/S5 Cabriolet models (which weren't available in April 2009), sales for the A5/S5 line increased a robust 54.3% from a year earlier.

Audi TDI technology convinces consumers to go "green"

Consumers are continuing to embrace TDI clean diesel technology from Audi in extraordinary ways. The Audi A3 TDI now accounts for 58.7% of the overall A3 model mix. Overall, A3 sales rose 144%, meaning sales of the TDI models are incremental since their introduction to the U.S. market late last year. The Audi Q7 TDI SUV continues to account for 36.2% of the Q7 line, a result that's largely limited by supply of the TDI models.

Audi Q5 also achieves best-ever sales mark

Since its debut in 2009, the Q5 has become the brand's second-best performing model, trailing only the A4 lineup. Sales of the Q5 crossover vehicle reached 1,910 units in April, an increase of 60.2% from last April.

The positive sales results for Audi in the U.S. came as AUDI AG reported its operating profits globally in the first quarter rose 30% to 478 million euros (roughly $632.7 million). Double-digit growth rates in all global regions over the first three months of 2010. In the first quarter, AUDI AG reported operating revenues of 8,260 million euros (roughly $10.9 billion).

Audi CPO sales results

Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales slipped due to limited supplies. Audi recorded 2,285 CPO units sold in April, off 12.2% from April 2009.
