Ford Kicks Off 2010 With 24 Percent Sales Increase, Market Share Gain, Thanks to Product Lineup

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --   --  Ford, Lincoln and Mercury January sales up 24 percent versus year ago
--  Cars up 43 percent, crossovers up 20 percent, SUVs up 8 percent,
trucks and vans up 14 percent

--  Ford brand sales up 26 percent, Lincoln up 16 percent and Mercury up 6
     percent
--  Ford's U.S. market share estimated at 16 percent, up 2 points versus
     year ago
--  Fleet customers are back in the market - and buying Ford; fleet sales
more than doubled versus last January's depressed levels
--  Retail sales were 5 percent lower following December's 18 percent
     increase
--  New products drive Ford's brand favorability and purchase
     consideration to record levels

Higher sales for every brand and in every product category propelled Ford to a 24 percent sales increase in January versus a year ago.

Ford cars were up 43 percent, crossovers were up 20 percent, sport utilities were up 8 percent, and trucks and vans were up 14 percent. Among brands, Ford sales were up 26 percent, Lincoln sales were up 16 percent and Mercury sales were up 6 percent.

"Ford's focus on building products consumers want to buy and love to drive will continue," said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing Sales and Service. "In 2010, we will give Ford customers even more reasons to Drive One."

Ford estimates its January U.S. total market share was approximately 16 percent - about 2 percentage points higher than in January 2009. Last year, Ford posted its first full-year U.S. market share increase since 1995.

Plus, every consumer metric about the Ford brand - including favorable opinion, consideration, shopping and intention to buy - ended the year at record levels. Last year, favorable opinion improved 27 percent and intention to buy Ford increased 30 percent.

"People increasingly are discovering that the Ford difference is the strength of our products, particularly our leadership in quality, fuel efficiency, safety, smart technologies and value," said Czubay.

Among full-line manufacturers, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles recorded the largest gain in resale values from the 2009 to 2010 model year. The projected resale value of Ford vehicles

increased by more than $1,300 per vehicle. Ford already holds a resale value advantage over its U.S.-based competitors, and it continues closing the gap on key imports with some Ford vehicles already having surpassed competing foreign vehicles.

"Resale value is a key indicator of brand health and an important contributor to the total value equation," said Czubay. "Fleet managers monitor vehicle operating costs very carefully. They are giving Ford more consideration because of our improving resale values."

In January, Ford sales to fleet customers more than doubled last January's depressed levels (up 154 percent) when most fleet owners deferred vehicle purchases due to the credit crunch and uncertain business and economic conditions.

Ford posted gains in every fleet market - commercial, government and rental. On an annual basis, a majority of Ford's fleet sales are to commercial and government customers where the Ford F-Series truck and Econoline van have long been top sellers. Today, products such as Fusion, Taurus and Escape are popular choices among fleet customers.

 Additional Sales Highlights
--  Ford Fusion, recently named Motor Trend's Car of the Year, posted a
January sales increase of 49 percent.  The Fusion Hybrid recently was
named North American Car of the Year.  Fusion and Mercury Milan are
the most fuel-efficient mid-size sedans in America.
--  Ford Taurus sales totaled 3,768, up 121 percent versus a year ago.
Since the introduction of the all-new model in August, Taurus sales
     are nearly double year-ago levels.
--  Crossover utilities also posted strong sales increases.  In 2009, the
Ford brand was the top-selling brand of crossovers in the U.S., led by
the Ford Escape.  In January, Escape sales were up 29 percent versus a
year ago, Edge sales were up 26 percent and Lincoln MKX sales were up
     27 percent.
 --  Ford's F-Series, America's best-selling truck for 33 years in a row
and best-selling vehicle - car or truck - for 28 years in row, posted
a 9 percent increase in January, and Ford Ranger compact pickup sales
were up 47 percent.  In 2009, F-Series increased its leadership
position among full-size pickups with a 4 percentage-point gain in
     segment share.
--  Transit Connect, Ford's new versatile, fuel-efficient small commercial
van, posted January sales of 1,161.  The Transit Connect recently was
named North American Truck of the Year.  Econoline, Ford's full-size
van, saw a sales increase of 5 percent.

Hyundai Motor America Reports January 2010 Sales

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America today announced January sales of 30,503 units, up 24 percent versus January 2009. This marks the thirteenth consecutive month of year-over-year retail market share gains for Hyundai and our best retail share performance since the government's "Cash-for-Clunkers" program in August 2009.

"While we were surprised and disappointed in the overall weakness of the industry in January, we are encouraged by our strong performance at both ends of the market spectrum. Our fuel-efficient Accent and Elantra entries were up 61 and 133 percent respectively, while our flagship Genesis recorded its best-ever retail segment share," said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America's vice president of national sales.

"In addition, we are exceptionally well poised for the first quarter of 2010. The red-hot and completely redesigned 2010 Tucson hit dealer lots in January and recorded a 128 percent sales increase in its first month. Vehicle availability is rapidly improving to meet overwhelming consumer demand and, at the same time, we are introducing the all-new, game-changing Sonata to our expanding product lineup this week. Both vehicles deliver striking styling and an unprecedented combination of quality, performance and fuel economy at a very affordable price. We fully expect both vehicles to significantly bolster our sales momentum throughout 2010."

Sonata and Tucson represent the first two vehicles in a wave of new model launches which will introduce seven new models in a 24 month period. This new product blitz from Hyundai, called "24/7 Version 2.0" will usher in a new era of modern design for the Hyundai brand, while retaining its strong heritage of quality, safety, fuel efficiency, and value.

In January, Hyundai Assurance was also extended and enhanced for 2010. The trend-setting program, initiated in 2009, includes a vehicle return option for new-car buyers and is the most comprehensive consumer safety net for new-car buyers in the industry.

Audi Reports Record January Sales to Open 2010

Latest full-month results surpassed January 2009 sales by 37.9% 2010 Green Car of the Year drives 106.2% Audi A3 sales gain

HERNDON, Va., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi today reported January U.S. sales of 6,510 luxury performance cars and SUVs, which accounted for a 37.9% overall increase from January 2009. The results followed strong year-end sales that gave Audi the largest 2009 market share gain in the imported luxury vehicle sector.

Sales of the Audi A3 jumped 106.2% largely due to the availability of the A3 TDI clean diesel model, which won the 2010 Green Car of the Year award at the Los Angeles Auto Show in December.

In fact, the fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions benefits of TDI technology continued to provide a winning story for Audi in January 2010. For the month, the A3 TDI made up 50% of all A3 sales, while demand for the larger Q7 TDI model constituted 48% of all Q7 sales. That level of demand far exceeds original expectations for TDI sales when Audi introduced the two models last year.

Sales of the Audi A4 sedan, the best-selling model in the Audi lineup, rose 60.3% in January 2010 compared to a year earlier. Sales of all A4 variants rose a solid 34.3% from a year earlier when the A4 Cabriolet was still available.

"Having ended 2009 on such a high note, it was important to ensure that our success was substantive and enduring," said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. "January sales figures reinforce the notion that our momentum is the byproduct of relentless innovation years in the making."

Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac Retail Sales Up 3 Percent -- Total Sales for These Brands Up 30 Percent

GM Total Sales Increase 14 Percent Fourth Consecutive Month of Retail Sales Gains for GM's Four Brands Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX Retail Sales Up 161 Percent Fleet Sales Comprise 29 Percent of Total Sales

DETROIT, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. dealers for GM's brands - Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac - reported retail sales of 102,420, up 3 percent compared to January 2009, and 145,098 total sales (up 30 percent). These results were driven by the continued strong growth of new GM crossovers and passenger cars. For the month, GM dealers reported 146,825 total sales (including other brands), representing a total sales increase of 14 percent from the previous year.

"This is the fourth month in a row that Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac have shown a collective year-over-year retail sales increase," said Susan Docherty, GM vice president, Sales, Service and Marketing. "Our long-term plan to continue to focus and strengthen our brands is delivering results."

Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac comprised 98 percent of the company's retail sales in January, compared to 85 percent a year earlier. Retail sales, including other brands, in the U.S. were 104,122 during the month. This represents a 10 percent decline from a year ago, driven by other brand sales - Pontiac, Saturn, Saab and HUMMER - that were 90 percent lower. GM dealers delivered 42,703 fleet vehicles, comprising 29 percent of total deliveries for the month.

 Other Key Facts:
--  Chevrolet Equinox retail sales increased 67 percent; estimated retail
share of the compact crossover segment is up 5 points (Jan. 2009 vs.
     Jan. 2010)
--  GMC Terrain retail sales were up 162 percent (compared to the vehicle
it replaces, Pontiac Torrent);  estimated retail share of the compact
crossover segment is up more than 3 points (Jan. 2009 vs. Jan. 2010)
--  Cadillac SRX retail sales were up 218 percent vs. last year, the fifth
     consecutive month it has gained more than 100 percent year-over-year;
SRX gained approximately 15 points of retail share in the Mid-lux SUV
crossover segment (Jan. 2009 vs. Jan. 2010)
--  In their first year on sale, GM Compact Crossovers - Chevrolet Equinox
and GMC Terrain - have become the second best selling crossovers in
     the industry
--  GM sells more crossovers than any other automaker, representing
approximately 20 percent of industry crossovers sold

--  Buick LaCrosse retail sales were up 142 percent, the fourth
     consecutive month it has gained more than 100 percent year-over-year;
LaCrosse gained an estimated 12 points of retail segment share, making
it number one in its segment (Jan. 2009 vs. Jan. 2010)
--  Chevrolet dealers sold 5,371 Camaros - the eighth straight month it
     has outsold Mustang

"Our launch vehicles such as the Chevrolet Equinox and Camaro, Buick LaCrosse, GMC Terrain, and Cadillac SRX continue to attract new customers to our brands," Docherty said. "In addition to styling and fuel efficiency, customers have told us they want safe, high quality vehicles. They can have peace of mind knowing that our vehicles come standard with our 5-year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty and OnStar."

Management Discussion of January Sales Results

"Global economic recovery is picking up pace," said Mike DiGiovanni, executive director, global market and industry analysis. "In the U.S., we are seeing a strong rebound in manufacturing and stabilization of consumer confidence, which will support a slow but steady improvement in the vehicle market."

 U.S. Economy
--  Leading economic indicators point to a continuing recovery in 2010,
     although risks remain
--  Job losses continue to decline, but initial claims of unemployment
remain high, indicating continuing reduction in the labor force.
Unemployment is likely to stay near 10 percent
--  Consumer confidence stabilized at the December level. Consumer vehicle
buying attitude is improving, but consumers don't anticipate a strong
     recovery in jobs and income
--  Home prices have stabilized in large parts of the country. Housing
starts dropped 4 percent in December, but rising housing permits
indicate construction will pick up in coming months
--  The manufacturing sector continues to expand. Corporate profit reports
show the corporate sector is positioned to expand as the economy
     improves

 U. S. Auto Industry
--  The U.S. January 2010 SAAR is estimated to be approximately 11.0 to
11.3 million (total industry estimate) - largely on par with Q4 2009
     sales
--  Based on the strengthening U.S. economy, we are increasing our 2010 CY
sales outlook to 11.5 to 12.0 million (total vehicle)

Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported January sales of 15,158 vehicles, a 45.3 percent improvement over January 2009, starting 2010 with robust momentum.

Strong demand in both the Mercedes sedan and light-truck categories fueled the increase in sales volume for the month.
