Although our latest intel doesn't have either coming to the States any time in the near future, Which would you prefer -- the Volkswagen Amarok or the global-platform Ford Ranger? Both manufacturers are hard at work testing their models. VW's entry into the mid-size truck segment is due out next year in South America, with other markets soon following. As soon as 2011, the Ranger is rumored to be hauling loads around Europe and Asia. Both are stylish, contemporary, and useful. They're anticipated to be very fuel efficient too thanks to a variety of small four-cylinder and diesel motors. So, which would you have? If not either of these, what else would you buy in the mid-sized truck segment?[SOURCE: Motor Trend]
A Ranger Crew-cab with reasonable room for four people and a 6-foot bed and either a 2.5 liter turbo-diesel four or a 3.0 liter turbo-diesel V6 with torque ratings from say 250 to 300 lb/ft would sell like funnel cakes at the Texas State Fair. Throw in tow ratings of say 5000 to 7000 lbs and highway mileage of about 25 mpg and Ford would have a sales leader on its hands. The price would not be able to go much beyond the mid 20 thousand dollar range. Of course a truck like this might steal some F150 sales but the truck would be a more viable vehicle in a larger number of international markets so overall profits could actually go up compared to just selling F150's in the US and Canada. I would love to buy something like this. Are you listening Ford?
Both. The more trucks available, the merrier. Personally I'd go with the Amarok, just to try something new.
