There has been a flurry of activity around the Internet concerning speculation that the Dodge Ram nameplate, one of Chrysler's strongest assets, is being launched as its own brand. Should it occur, Ram would sell SUVs, vans, and of course, trucks, under its own brand, instead of the omnipresent Dodge Ram name. Exciting indeed, but this wouldn't be the first time this scenario has been projected, and until the split is made official, the Ram remains a Dodge.

For a blast from the past, check out Edward A. Sanchez's take on a Ram spin-off from last Halloween.

I think the reason the new management is doing this, is they want to strengthen the brand recognition of Dodge cars. Right now, they're mainly known for trucks, aside from the Viper, Challenger and Charger. Nothing wrong with that, but the trucks inadvertently overshadow the cars. I see the RAM brand becoming somewhat equivalent to GMC. Thanks for the shout-out, Benson!

Personally I think they need to expand there vision for Dodge and I think this is Chrysler's main goal with this move. As people have stated before, when you think of Dodge you think of trucks....and maybe the Challenger at this point. The Dodge Ram is the forte of Dodge and really has nothing to fall back on. So maybe this way Dodge can expand into a series of "new" and "fuel efficient" cars with better quality and less emissions.
