I sold my diesel as I used it so seldom, but I still have my TT. It is a Wilderness...1997, 26' long The spec on the trailer said GVWR 6,900#. I would like to buy a chevy...GMC  1/2 ton maybe a ford. Does anyone see a problem with towing???I dont go over a lot of steep inclines, but I want to if I need to. Thanks for your help...Dave Gale

Curb weight + cargo weight + passengers = gross vehicle weight

Gross vehicle weight + loaded trailer weight = gross combined weight

As long as the truck's GCWR is not exceeded, you will be fine towing your trailer. FYI, a 2010 Sierra crew cab with 2WD, the bigger 6.2-liter V-8, and an enhanced trailering package is rated to tow 10,600 pounds.

Even though your truck may be rated for a certain amount of weight, there are some major advantages to having a diesel for towing rather than a gas engine. You can get a 3/4-ton short-bed crew cab diesel that dimensionally, isn't much bigger than a half-ton equivalent (with the exception of Ford). I know my father-in-law went from a Yukon Denali (6.0 gas) to a Sierra 2500 Duramax, and actually saw a significant increase in fuel economy while towing with the diesel.

It's a shame all of the Detroit 3 have postponed their half-ton diesel plans, as I think there are probably a lot of customers similar to you, in which a smaller, slightly lighter-duty diesel is just what they need/want.

Also if you want the increase tow rating but lower maint cost since your not towing much a 3/4ton gasser should work fine. I've always loved diesels but with pollution restrictions, fuel price, and higher maint costs I've gone to a Ram 2500 4x4 with the Hemi and been completely happy.
