Yet Another Clunker of the Day: 1992 Chevy Astro Van

It's about time an Astro van rolled into the Clunker of the Day section; it sort of looks like a paler Cookie Monster.

Michael McNulty had the "perfect clunker," a 1992 Chevy Astro Van with 227,000 miles on it. Then along came son Matthew, 10, with spray paint cans to make it even more perfect.

Knowing that he would be trading it under the "Cash for Clunkers" program, McNulty let Matthew, 10, above, make the van his perfect canvas. It helped cover over some of the van's shortcomings, as described by McNulty:

"The paint was peeling off the sides in sheets and crumbling off the roof, the interior was disintegrating, and I'd had a series of smoke producing, wire melting, fuse blowing  electrical issues in the past year.  It also ate air conditioning compressors about every third year.  But, to be fair, the engine and transmission never let me down."
