F 250 TRANNY

I had the tranny flushed and filled at 90K miles. A week later after few driven miles, it "lurched" as if going into passing gear and the Tow/Haul ON light started blinking. After the dealer scanned it, he first saw codes for bad solanoid, then a bad EGR valve. When he dropped the pan he saw metal pieces - road tested again and found it took off in 3rd gear and went right into 5th. They recommend a refurbished tranny for $3200. Prior to any of the preventative maint. the truck ran great, no symptoms of any kind.

I don't believe in coincidence. Any thoughts  ?

Unfortunately, I believe premature F-250 transmission failures are not uncommon. The $3200 for a refurb sounds about right for a dealer, is that just for the unit? You can probably find a cheaper refurb if you look around, but be sure to get something with a warranty, just in case.

After they cracked the case open they believe the pump failed causing the planetary system to destroy itself with no fluid getting to it. Should not the "brain" sense the failure or is this all part of planned obsolescence ?!

Sorry to hear that, but if you Google "F250 transmission" you'll find a host of other people with similar problems. :/
