: Diesel prices rise seven cents
Mar 24, 2009 2:07 PM, By Justin Carretta, online news editor
The average diesel price in the U.S. increased seven cents to $2.09 per gallon for the week of March 23rd, according to the Energy Information Administration, the first time prices have gone up in the past ten weeks.
Since reaching its all-time high of $4.76 on July 14th, diesel prices have dropped 34 of the past 36 weeks—staying flat and increasing two cents in the remaining two weeks. The seven cent increase is the largest amount prices have climbed since May 26, 2008. However, the average price is still down nearly two dollars a gallon year-over-year.

Diesel rises for second straight week
Mar 31, 2009 2:03 PM, By Brian Straight, managing editor
After declining in 34 of the previous 36 weeks, the average price of diesel fuel has risen for the second straight week, jumping 13 cents to $2.22/gal. nationally.
That hike, though, may be due to nothing more than prices catching up with the cost of a barrel of crude, according to one expert.

Diesel prices flat for 4th straight week
Apr 21, 2009 12:36 PM, By Brian Straight, managing editor
The four-week average for diesel in the U.S. has remained steady as $2.22/gal., down nearly $2 from the same period a year ago.
The prices for the four weeks have changed less than a penny, according to the Energy Information Administration. For the week of April 20, the price sits at $2.22/gal, down a penny from last week. After climbing 13 cents from March 23 to March 30, the price has stayed at $2.22 or $2.23. A year ago, the price was $4.18. Article Tools
New England remains the most expensive region with diesel selling at $2.40/gal., down 2 cents from a week ago. The Central Atlantic region and California each saw a 1 cent decrease to $2.39 and $2.34 respectively. Only the Rocky Mountain area posted an increase this week, jumping 2 cents to $2.27. The Midwest had the cheapest diesel, at $2.17.
Crude oil fell to a five-week low on the New York Mercantile Exchange this morning on fears of rising U.S. inventories, according to Bloomberg News. A barrel of crude for May delivery was trading at $44.58 at mid-morning, down $1.30 or 2.8%, rebounding from an earlier loss of 4.5% to $43.83.
The Energy Dept. will officially release the U.S. inventory supply report, expected to show a 2.5 million barrel increase, tomorrow, according to Bloomberg.

Diesel fuel holds steady amid rising crude
May 12, 2009 1:49 PM, By Brian Straight, managing editor
Crude oil is trading around $57/barrel, and U.S. gasoline prices jumped 16 cents/gal. last week, but those increases have not translated to high diesel prices as the weekly average price for a gallon of diesel for the week of May 11 rose just 3 cents from the previous week.
The $2.22/gal. price is just one cent off the four-week average of $2.21. Gasoline climbed to $2.24/gal. and crude oil was trading down but still remained at $57.81 in mid-morning trading.

Lucky for diesel. I'm surprised the speculators haven't been jumping at any opportunity to say the world's fuel supply is going to dry up in next 1-100 years so diesel needs to be priced at $10/gallon to make things work.
And maybe the lower diesel prices will encourage more diesel light-duties sooner than later.
