I found this over at MT, its a good read not that i agree with it, but it talks about things u you normally would think of.

:

Below is a link to a European website. Read up on how much pollution really is spewed out into the air of those "clean" diesels. (Yeah that right VW, AUDI, BMW and Mercedes, we're talking about you!)

Untreated diesel emissions are very dirty. There's no dispute about that. But almost every developed nation in the world has diesel emissions standards on the books. The only controversial aspect of diesel emissions that they haven't quite gotten a handle on (and there's still quite a bit of debate on how harmful they actually are) are the nano-particles that are still in diesel exhaust.

Untreated gasoline emissions are very toxic as well. But you can't reasonably compare a brand-new gasoline engine to one built in 1970. Same thing with diesels. The diesels from the '70s and '80s are totally different animals than the new ones out now.

What I don't like about Diesels is the STINK.They don't smell, they STINK.Every Diesel I've been within 50' of has riled me by the smell.I'm not just talking about OTR Trucks, either. Pickups and cars...they are foul. The worst smell from a Diesel I've ever >Repeatedly< experienced is when it's the middle of winter, extremely cold, and the air is still...and as I'm walking through a parking lot, someone starts their Diesel vehicle. God almighty!

Sure, I know that Diesel fuel has far more BTU's of energy in it per gallon, the engines are Torque monsters...but until the engineers come up with a way to greatly curtail their smell, I won't have one.

I see where recently GM pulled the plug on their proposed 4.5 Liter Diesel.I'm sure it has a lot to do with emissions,it's too bad this problem has not been solved. And I don't even believe in Global Warming, just hate the smell!

Hi!

It is really difficult to say what is better.
Diesel vs gas engine never ending story - they are both really necessary. I can not imagine world without diesel (I am not enthusiast of diesels) but modern turbo diesels (especially european - great performance, torque, smooth ride, guiet extemly high fuel efficiency, but You can not relay on - very sensitive reg fuel quality (common -rail), expensive to maintain (hi-tech made You to vistit only authorised, well equiped services and pay fortune.

In Europe diesels are really popular. This is kind of fasion, but they are very economical. Imagine that Your 4 door saloon does 60 miles per gallon (highway) and 45 miles (city).

So diesel for trade and when You drive a lot, I can stand often refilling fuel tank. Having diesel it is possible to forget where the gas tank door is :-)

regards
