What do you think is going to happen? India doesn't want them... will Tata be the next big name in the Hummer Web?
:
Ever since GM CEO Rick Wagoner revealed that his company would either sell or shut down Hummer in the near future, many have speculated on just who would actually want to buy the troubled SUV division. As time goes on and potential suitors continue to back away, it seems the answer may be...no one. The latest contender to tap out is India's Mahindra & Mahindra, who was said to be interested after losing out to rival Tata in the Jaguar/Land Rover sale. It looks increasingly likely that Hummer is heading for SUV heaven in the near future.
While buyers in the U.S. and Europe are leaving Hummer in droves, GM is hoping that a someone from a country where gas is still cheap and abundant might be interested in picking up the brand. Previously it was rumored that Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska wanted to acquire the nameplate for his company Russian Machines, and planned to use the Canadian company Magna International to produce the off-roaders. Whether Deripaska would continue selling Hummer in the U.S. was never determined, but it turned out not to matter -- even before GM would confirm that exploratory talks were taking place, Russian Machines issued a statement saying it is not "strategically interested in such a deal."

Maybe the U.S. military will take it.

I am glad nobody wants to buy them. Hummer owners paid alot of money for their trucks and the dealers have invested alot of money in their dealerships. Re-vamp the brand. Put some fuel efficient engines in the trucks, build the H4, take some weight out of the trucks, and they will sell. My H3 gets no worse mileage then any pickup on the market. Make it work GM.

i think the chinese may want to buy the brand LOL. but seriously, they have enough money to buy GM, ford and chrysler COMBINED. the hummer brand is strong in countries where oil cost is not a problem. and the chinese are itching to get their brand in the US the faster way. besides, they may have the intestinal fortitude to make strategic decisions that GM execs would never dare make. yes, diesels in hummers..yes, diesel-based hybrid powertrains also. what's not to like when those are the propositions that they may present to us US consumers?

That's an interesting thought. I don't know about saying that China doesn't have an oil problem though. The government recently cut oil subsidies in the face of increasing fuel costs, so oil won't be flowing as freely as it used to be. Also, I would think domestic demand would be nearly non-existent in China.
