: As you most likely already know, sales results for the year through June have been posted by the world's automakers and by the looks of them, the future looks grim. General Motors recorded a record 18.5 percent decline compared to the same time last year, with sales totaling only 265,937 vehicles.
Like other mass production automakers facing devastating sales figures, GM has resorted to a corporate restructuring plans that includes the reduction of workforces, closing of manufacturing facilities, cutting large vehicle production and what is most relevant for today, the possible sale of lackluster brands.
The Thread of the Day penned by tarheelgonegator specifically asks regarding GM's Pontiac and GMC brands:
Which would you rather have dropped from GM's brand portfolio: Pontiac or GMC?
Relatedly, early last month GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner mentioned that his executive team is contemplating "everything from a complete revamp of the product lineup to partial or complete sale of the (Hummer) brand."
If not GMC or Pontiac, which of GM's brands (both domestic and international), if sold, would help revive the ailing American automotive powerhouse?
Let's hear your choices and reasons why in our comments section below.

I think GMC could be dropped, although I'm not sure it would do all that much for the bottom line. If you drop Pontiac or Buick people might move to the Saturn or Caddy, but Most people who drive Pontiacs or Buicks would rather go up to Saturn or a Caddy as opposed to Chevy. I do think GM needs to put more emphasis on their small truck segment. Mileage wise, there is not that much difference between full size and "mid" size and the prices are not that far apart.

GMC line is too tied up into a bigger picture. Their classes of trucks to class 8, and larger make up much of the trucking world shared with Isuzu. Pontiac could go away, and no one would notice. Pontiac's shared platform will do fine. Just re-badge. Like Ford Ranger, and the Probe did built 99% by Mazda. A smart move, and saved Ford's reputation. GMC finally is getting smart by dropping the 4.3 in midsize trucks. It never did well for milage. The newer line of GM's V8's get better milage. Isuzu took over the power plants in the mid size.
