I have read the Consumer Reports ratings. I have had Consumer Reports tell me the Jeep Wrangler is completely unreliable and I bought an 87 new, put 165,000 trouble tree miles, gave it to my Son, he still has it with 200,000. No vehicle is perfect, they are machines and they break, even your beloved Toyota. These are our trucks,GM, Ford, Dodge, this is our country. Support America.

materialman your comment about a truck merely being a machine is very true. But I'm not a rich man by any means and when I invest in a vehicle I have to have one that will be relatively troublefree for many years. I would love to buy one of the big three if I could find one that would last with as few of problems as the toyotas I have owned since 1983. The newer Chevys and Fords are of better quality and that is mostly because they were forced to compete with the Japanese in the 80s and 90s and if they hadn't improved their quality they would have gone out of business a long time ago. As far as Jeeps are concerned they are just a kickass fun vehicle. I've had two of them. They were relatively dependable but I think Consumer Reports main problems with them is their ride and handling and you have to admit they are not worth what you have to pay for them new. Anyway when your buying one of the big three in todays market your not buying any more American than when I buy a Toyota, your just buying a name

I paid $8200 for the Jeep brand new. Probably the best money I ever spent on a vehicle and put pennies into it through the years. Used it on the pipeline and used it hard. I am not a rich man either toy22 and I understand not wanting to put out alot of money on maintenance, but in my experience, I haven't. Again, I don't think Toyota is a bad truck, I have watched as industry after industry goes out of business in this country and I just don't think that is a good thing. I think we need to make something in this country besides McDonald hamburgers and cigarettes. You are right, you are buying a name, GM, Ford, Chrysler were born here, created here, American companies. To some, obviously that doesn't matter, to me it does.

materialman I understand what you are saying and I applaud your patriotism. We both seem to have very similar backgrounds. I wish you and yours a great Christmas and a very happy and safe New Year.

I wish you the best as well toy. I'm sitting here watching and rooting for the New Orleans Saints, if you think I'm nuts for buying American trucks, you probably think I'm absolutely insane for being a Saints fan.....

I had a T-Shirt that said that 6.7, as I ran diesels for years. As far as favorite make, I ran mostly Fords for years, but have had a couple of good Dodge trucks as well. My last diesel was a 04 GMC Duramax diesel. Amazing truck, great power, Allison trans was fantastic, good mileage. I sold it when I got out of pipline construction and sold my 5th wheel, but I wish I hadn't. I miss it. They are all good, some do things a bit better then others, but all good. Even Toyota builds a good 1/2 ton, but I won't buy one, I just stick with American owned brands, but that's just me. My brother-in-law has a new GMC Denali with the 6.2 and the 6 speed automatic. Very, very nice truck!

They were Rams, I have a Dakota now with 120,000 that runs as good as new. Uses no oil, no leaks, decent mileage, good small truck.
