To all those who say the tundra is not supporting our country, how about the fact that they build it in texas? Where does ford gm and chrylser build their trucks?

We have been over this before. They are built in Texas, everybody is laid off right now, but they are built in Texas. No one disputes that. No one says they can't do business here. Nobody likes the fact the our guys build trucks outside the US. Here is the bottom line. When Toyota builds a truck, where does the profit go? It goes to Japan, because that is where they are based. When GM, Ford, or Chrysler build a truck, where does the profit go? It stays in the US, because that's where they are based. Have you checked out our financial situation in this country lately? The unemployment rate? The trade deficit? Maybe the National Debt? Ok, how do you feel about these figures? Are they "good things"? Are you adding to them by buying foreign? I know what your thinking, "what about all those suppliers that sell to Toyota, they will go out of business. Well no they would not, the amount of trucks sold here will not decrease, if Toyota did not sell trucks here, people would buy more GM, Ford, and Chrysler products. The suppliers would sell to them, not Toyota. I'm sure your next comment will be, what about all those workers at the Toyota plant, they would be out of work? No, American plants would ramp up hiring more employees. I have watched through the years as more and more American companies go out of business as foreign companies continue to do well. Maybe you think it doesn't matter, I think it does. Support this country, let's let Japan worry about themselves. What is wrong with us taking care of our own for a change?

@Materialman:
I bought my Tundra in early 2007 - when the economy was still doing just fine - so don't give me the "don't you care about American companies?" guilt trip. And in case you're wondering; yes, I would do it again right now and so would many other millions of people in this country. I saw a survey on TV the other night that said that some 90% of Americans wouldn't buy a car from a bankrupt company - and with bankruptcy for the Big 3 imminent, there are potentially even MORE people who would buy a Toyota now than in 2007.
The Big 3 got themselves into this mess with sloppy financials and poor quality in the 90's and early 2000's - this is where the foreign market started taking over market share. People abandoned them for better and cheaper products. Then they have the balls to show up in DC in their private multi-million dollar jets and ask for money from the taxpayers? I have less respect for them now than I did when I bought my truck.
So you go ahead and buy a vehicle that will have massive depreciation when you drive it off the lot. When you bring it back for warrranty work and the dealership is out of business don't get mad at those of us who opted for the better product, meanwhile we'll be getting our vehicles serviced at a dealership that employs thousands of Americans and was built here in America.
You starting to see how smart people think?

Furthermore, I work, live, pay taxes, shop in America. I bring an American product to market for Americans to be consumed by Americans and absolutely none of it goes overseas. So if I want to buy a vehicle or two that sends a little bit of money overseas but the tradeoff is I get a better product for less money then I have absolutely NO problem doing that.

Plus, there is an article on this web site about toyota starting production on the tundra again, even if the trucks don't sell, the texas plant. if big 3 fail, toyota, honda, and nissan are their to pickup the pieces. So materialman, would you support toyota if the big 3 go under, and toyota, honda, and nissan are trying to give people jobs to make their vehicles?

Hello I'll start out by saying Im a big Ford guy, with an 02 F-150. I have what they call "Good Old Boy" syndrome.. LOL But its because im a big heritage person. My great grandfather all the way to me, through the bad and good times. My grandfather told me stories of the big three coming togather to build tanks, planes, jeeps, and trucks for the war effort. I am now a vehicle mechanic in the U.S. military, and love my job. If the big three go down... What will I work on??? The DOD WILL NOT buy foreign, and I know because Ive read the protocol many times. Now, Im not against Toyota.. its a free country im fighting for. A good mojority of folks I talk to that own a Tundra are first time truck owners and didnt even test drive or do research on the competition..?? I think alot of them just go by here say. just thought I would throw that out there to see what you all may think

I think I heard about that.. but I believe they were for the Iraq'ie contractors only. The tacoma is a damn good truck. I wouldnt buy one myself, but usually recomend it to others cuz I have never really had to work on one. The 2004 tundra is good for the most part.. the only thing Ive done with those is transmissions and weared rear drum problems

You may wanna go down to your local Toyota dealer to see what kind of deal they will give you. My old man just picked up an 08 F-150 for ten g's off From what I hear they stopped production on the Tundra for a little bit, so they may be willing to do a good deal with ya You never know...

"Guilt Trip"...If you feel guilty it's because deep down inside you know putting Japan ahead of the United States is not the right thing to do, not because I put it on you. I think people would be nervous about buying a truck from a bankrupt company, so I say lets make sure they don't go bankrupt.
Sloppy financials and poor quality you say in the 90's? I owned a 93 F-250 diesel and put 200,000 trouble free miles on it. Bought my father-in law a 97 Dodge Ram, he is still driving it with no problems. Poor quality? I just don't see it. American trucks are as good as any made anywhere by anyone. As far as "abandoning" them for "cheaper products", are you speaking of Toyota? They are probably built cheaper, but you dam sure don't buy them cheaper. You can buy an American truck quite a bit cheaper then a Toyota. Oh you brought up resale. Lets look at that, I just ran a 2007 Tundra on Edmunds, Limited 4x4 Crew Max and it had a trade in value of $23904. Then I ran a 2007 Silverado LTZ Crew Cab 4x4 and it had a trade in value of $21694. So your Toyota is worth $2210 more then the Chevrolet. I'm guessing the Chevrolet sold for way less then the $2210 difference in the resale price today....so are youstarting to see how smart people think?

The sequoia was cheap because of the size of the truck, seeing that there are plenty of rebates on the truck. Hey materialman, bet you don't like toyota in nascar do you?

They certainly have a right to compete in NASCAR, but do I root for them, no, of course not.

Go to consumer reports buyers guide where they rank the quality on vehicles. Look up your Chevy and Dodge compared to any Toyota. Consumer reports takes no advertiseing from any manufacturer so their rankings are based on testing. If your going to make an argument about buying a Chevy or Dodge it can't be made on quality because the facts just do not back you up and that holds really true if you go back to the 80s and 90s.
