UUhhh....The 5.7L in the Tundra has a "metal" timming chain, as for the frame, check what the superduty trucks use. Oh and last but least our trucks are built in the USA!!!! Not below the boarder like some of our so called american trucks? Remember what makes a Toyota a Toyota....Quality not Quanity!!!!! The domestic's have been building trucks for over a hundred years and still can't get'em right? Check the re-calls through the year's for Ford, Chevy, Dodge???? Not trying to be biased, but just upset that we leveled Japan in 1945 and now they are the number 1 automaker worldwide and now we play catch-up?

rld180: While Trucktrend has named the Tunda TOY, I take exception to that for two reasons.
First, while the Ford Chevvy and Dodge will be out working, some day the Toyota will be in the garage getting an expensive cam belt change. Real trucks do not have a rubber band running the cam shafts.
Second, the Toyota has an old style open frame. The American truck have gone to a full boxed frame for several years now. Even my mid-sized Colorado has a strong full lengthed box frame.

The CAR OF THE YEAR may be put together in the US but it is made by a company from Japan. Parts from Japan. You are supporting a different country's economy by buying the product. Why buy something that is trying to be a truck when Dodge,Ford,Chevy,GMC have been making trucks for the last 100 years. Do you eat Steak or Sushi ? I know what I eat and it is not from Japan. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN. UNION MADE. It is a japanese vehicle.

Anyone interested in seeing proof which truck is #1, go to UTube and search for the video entitled "Bed Bounce". I am in the automotive business and have at one time or another in my career worked for all of the big three. Just thought I'd put my two cents in on a couple of things (for what it’s worth).
"And you won't see a Toyota pulling a big John Deere (handle that tongue weight? I think not) or carrying around a commercial grade 9 foot plow." -Truth is, a very small percent of truck owners actually use their truck any differently than they would use any car. Ford owners are nearly twice as likely as Chevy owners and almost four times as likely as a Toyota or Nissan owner. Superduty owners are the highest percentage of work-use at around 75%. "You may want to take the time and look at the 08 Dodge with the BlueTech Cummins. It's quiet, powerful and something to consider." -Cummins engines are indeed incredible machines. Even more incredible is Cummins parent corp. Ford Motor Company.
"as for the frame, check what the superduty trucks use." -To what, dear sir, do you refer?
"Remember what makes a Toyota a Toyota....Quality not Quanity!!!!! The domestic's have been building trucks for over a hundred years and still can't get'em right?" -According to the DMV, there are more F-series trucks on the road today with over 250k (where the dmv quits counting) miles on them then all other makes and models COMBINED. How's that for quality AND quantity?
"Check the re-calls through the year's for Ford, Chevy, Dodge????" -Toyota within the last year issued the largest recall in automotive history. Conveniently two days after J.D. Power's most recent numbers were made public. The autogroup I work for has a Toyota franchise. Let me tell you as a person who has seen the numbers, their service department makes more money on its worst day then the sales department does on its best. This from a dealership that averages about 350 vehicles a month in sales.
Interesting fact: Chevrolet didn't originate in the USA. It was founded and run for several years in Switzerland (hence the French name) as, get this, a tribute to Henry Ford! The bow tie emblem was a design on the wallpaper at the hotel the founders stayed at while they structured the business. It wasn't until GM bought the company that it was relocated the US.

Who are you angry at the auto industry or the oil industry? You don't seem to differentiate between the two. Why would the auto industry be recouping money lost in petrol sales? DYK, the inventor of the diesel engine (I believe his name was Dr. Diesel, or at least it should have been) never intended his engine to be run on fossil fuels at all? It wasn't until the engine made its way from tractors to passenger vehicles that the oil industry introduced "diesel" fuel. In Europe, which has much more stringent environmental laws, over half of the cars are diesel. The reason? Their diesel is MUCH cleaner then what is sold here, gas or diesel. True, diesel engines cost more (a $6800 option at Ford) but they also last much longer then gas engines and are worked many times harder on average. The reason CAFE and EPA regulations are different is that you are only looking at diesel trucks which are considered industrial use vehicles due to weight. Diesel cars have always (until our current moratorium on new diesel powered cars) had EPA ratings posted. If a diesel engine is offered in a half-ton rig you can expect it to be posted there as well. I believe you are right on in your anger over obvious inconsistencies where diesel pricing and availability is concerned, but you may give some thought to where that anger is focused.

Buy American, GM, Ford, or Dodge. This is our country, these are our trucks. End of story.
