DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Robby Gordon said Monday the cancellation of the Dakar Rally cost him approximately $4.5 million, and he disagreed with the decision not to race at least a portion of the event.
Gordon, who won stages of the race the past three years and led the event in 2005, was in Portugal and preparing for the start when organizers canceled it because of "direct" threats of terrorism from al-Qaida-linked militants.
Gordon said his team had built two cars for the event and had more than $1 million invested in each vehicle.

What would his attitude have been if they raced and guys got killed because of terrorists?! That race is run through some of the most unfriendly parts of Africa (which is basically msot of the continent) so the threat of life-threatening is high before the possibility of terrorist attack.
Anothing whining rant by Robby Gordon. I'm still waiting for one of the other drivers in NASCAR to knock him on his butt!
My thought is, the last 3-4 years they've had problems with stuff like this, maybe it's time to move the whole race to someplace like Australia or another part of the world with similar terrain and open racing area, that won't put the lives of the racers, support crews, and TV people at risk beyond the normal ones assocaited with racing.
