Are they ready to trade in their diesels power pullers for the next generation of hybrid pullers?

Like the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid 2 Mode, it promises the power needed to pull and saves on gas.

Soccer Moms with SUVs – yes

Truck users with “real” towing needs – no

The half ton GM pickup hybrid has very limited towing ability.  That limitation combined with the higher price premium, will keep serious “tow-ers” away from the truck.

I'll have to agree. I think that the average Soccer Mom or the power suit guys will find the hybrids useful for their daily city driving. I don’t think hard-core haulers and off-roaders see these vehicles as nothing more than a point A to point B. I know Hybrids have been around for a few years. But i think SUV and truck Hybrids still have a ways to go before the market jumps on to them.

Don't kid yourselves. If Chevy gets their hybrid truck out with the mileage of a small truck, drivers will pay the premium even if it doesn't tow as much as a non-hybrid truck. It may be the death of small trucks (until they too are hybridized).

Even if heavy duty hybrids only operate in hybrid mode when they're not towing, it would still save an enormous amount of fuel. Most trucks don't tow every day. In fact, most trucks don't tow any day. Their owners just have to own them for the few times that they're needed for towing.
