Volkswagen to debut Touareg R50

UPDATE: Volkswagen has released official details for the Touareg R50 and it turns out the beastly SUV from Wolfsburg will unleash 350 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. Those figures are good enough for the R50 to post 6.7 second 0 to 62 mph runs and a top speed of 146 mph. Other special features include 21-inch wheels, "R50" embossed nappa leather seatbacks, blue brake calipers, and revised side skirts, wheel arches, and front grille.

It appears Volkswagen is going Porsche hunting with the announcement that it will build a performance-oriented version of the Touareg dubbed R50. The vehicle is set to debut next week at the Australian International Motor Show.
