SEMA eNews, Vol. 10, No. 37 - Sep 13, 2007 USED DODGE MAGNUMS POST BIG SALES MONTH
Chrysler reported last week that its Five Star dealers had sold a record 10,204 certified pre-owned vehicles in August, a 5% increase from August 2006 sales. Jeep models were the overall winner for the month, with sales surging 19%, while Chrysler brand sales dipped 3%. Dodge brand sales climbed 3%, including a model favored by musclecar and customization fans: the Magnum.
The Magnum sold 26% better this past August compared to a year ago—good news for the air intake, exhaust and lighting companies that make parts specific to this muscle wagon. According to SEMA research obtained via CarDomain.com, the top five modifications preferred by Magnum enthusiasts are tires (19.7%), air intake (14.2%), exhaust (12.9%), wheels (10.9%) and lighting (8.4%).

You know why they sold so many of the "used" Magnums? Since Chrysler lost its mind there for a few months and continued cranking out new Magnums at full pace as demand lessened, they had parking lots full of new models. To get the prices down, they started allowing these vehicles to be used as "loaner" cars for as little as a week. (Usually the dealer has to use these vehicles like this for six months or so before they can be sold back used, as per the manufacturer.) So, in doing so Chrysler dealers got a fleet of slightly used vehicles to flog at a lower price to customers. Really these "certified pre-owned" should be retitled as "certified pre-rented."

Either way, The Magnum a cool looking car for families who hate mini-vans... I'm glad the price has dropped. Definately overpriced coming off the showroom floor..
