Durango, Jeep Electrical Gremlins Posted By: John Matarese
Thousands of people who own some popular SUV's have been experiencing some very unusual electrical problems. In some cases, it seems like the truck is possessed by gremlins!
Mary McDonnell knew something was wrong with her Dodge Durango the moment she opened her door one day.
"It's dinging. It has the tow and haul light on, the gas light on, the oil light on , and it shouldn't be doing it," she says.
But she had to get to work. So she drove it with the warning lights on, the speedometer stuck at 10 miles per hour, and the gas gauge on empty. "I know I have gas in it, and its below E."
But it got worse. Her wipers came on...And would not turn off!
And she says when she got to work, she saw smoke coming from the dash.
"I parked in the garage, parked my car, and the next thing I saw smoking this area."
As we talked...She smelled it again. "I smell fumes., and the more I drive it, the more I smell it."
Mary's Durango is now one of a half million Chrysler SUV's just recalled for this very problem.
--It involves the 2004-2006 Dodge Durango and Jeep Liberty.
--Chrysler blames a "circuit in the instrument panel that can overload and lead to overheating."
--The automaker reports 66 fires from this so far.
Good news: Mary's Dodge dealer told us they would replace her troubled dashboard cluster free of charge.
Meantime, if you drive an 04 to 06 Liberty or Durango, check with your dealer...so you can avoid the same thing happening to you...And so you dont waste your
