I agree. Better economy, higher towing capacity, and a ton of torque.

I totally agree. It sounds as if the full-size truck market will get a boost with Nissan and Toyota developing diesel options in the next few years. But I think you are right about more cars. In Europe most cars come with diesel options. I know there are emmision and sulfur regulations here in the U.S. that are causing problems for bringing them over, but the prospect of biodiesel and performance tuning is too good to pass up.

Plus, they usually last longer. Common-rail injection would be nice to see on all diesels too. Makes them more efficient, quieter, smoother, lower in emissions and in some cases I believe almost negate the need for glow plugs.

I've got a 2002 GMC Sierra now, 4.8 V8. I was in the market for a new truck for 2006 but missed the order date. So now I'm thinking I'll keep the old truck a while longer to see if anyone comes out with something like a 3.5-4.0 liter diesel option.
My truck does typical 1/2 ton duty, but about six times I a year I tow my light weight 5th wheel (about 6,000 lbs loaded) for round trips of about 600 miles. The little V8 does a decent job...but isn't really up to the task through the mountains. Mileage drops to about 14 mpg which isn't bad, but I think a small diesel can do better.
I'm looking for a 1/2 ton with a diesel that can tow 8,000 - 10,000 lbs, gets about 25mpg empty, maybe 16-18 towing.
Personally I think the first US maker that brings out a smaller 6 cyl diesel option for a reasonable price is going to make a killing. The time is right....WE NEED MORE DIESELS! ![]() JohnnyB

This "Edward A. Sanchez" guy did a pretty decent summary of some upcoming diesels:

Also, the EPA's upcomiong ruling on the urea system may finally allow diesel cars back in the states:

From the sound of things, both Ford and GM have half-ton diesels in the works. I think they'll probably be smaller-displacement V-8s, between 4.5 and 5.5 liters. But likely close to if not more than 500 lb.-ft of torque.

A 200-250 h.p. / 500 lb-ft. 4 cylinder that will get 25+ empty and high teens towing will sell.

I agree the new breed of diesels will sell to the economy and performance minded. I think the only fear people have is the number of gas stations that carry low sulfur diesel. If they would mandate every gas station had a pump, I am sure sales would skyrocket.

Most every station in my area carries diesel. No issue around here.
Ford likely will be the first with a diesel 1/2 ton with Dodge not far behind.

We need the 7.3 power-stroke back. The 6L power-stroke has been a night-mare to what use to be a loyal Ford base. What were they thinking?

The 7.3 is near bullet proof. The 6.0, well its far from bullet proof.
If I were to buy a Ford Super Duty diesel, highly unlikely but if I were, I'd buy a 7.3.

From what I've read so far the 6.4 isn't getting off to a good start either.
