I was thinking about chipping my 1993 F-250 but I was just wondering how much it would cost and how much extra horses it will really pull out...also was thinking to get the chip to make my truck more fuel efficient, any of you guys heard of this? All a superchip does is trick your engine to preform better if I am correct so I was thinking wouldn't it really beat up on my engine? Any information would be appreciated, thanks.

At that age and probably mileage. I think that you could probably gain performance in other ways that are probably a bit cheaper. Replacing the oxygen sensor if it hasn't been replaced in a while would probably make a decent difference. A new or cleaned (only if it is a reusable one) air filter. A fuel injector cleaner or carb cleaner. Possibly a can of decarbonizer. All this should help performance, fuel economy, make it a bit smoother and should be cheaper then a chip.

Superchips and others like it obtain results by changing the timing, spark, and fuel curves that are factory programmed into the computer. It also allows you to remove the speed governor, change the rev limiter, calibrate your speedometer for bigger or smaller tires, and change the transmission shift points. The results are well documented and if you follow the instructions should not damage your engine no matter how old it is. It can get you better gas mileage in most cases due to increasing the efficiency of the motor. Being a 1993 vehicle you most likely have an OBDI and not the more versatile OBDII which was introduced to all vehicles in 1996. This will allow some changes but not all that are available with an OBDII. You would be wise to speak to a Superchips customer service rep so they can explain the details before making the investment(usually $300-$400). Good luck. "Drive it like you stole it"
