Your Favorite Road

Jim asked: "Everybody's got one (at least, every enthusiast does). That one stretch of roadway you go out of your way to haul it through. So what and where is it? A twisty mountain two-lane? A desolate desert highway? Your local downtown boulevard? A quiet country lane? A dirt road leading to the middle of nowhere? Or is your favorite road the one you blaze yourself? Please, share.
My favorite road is a short forested two-lane near where I grew up, just north of Pittsburgh, PA. It stretches for about 6-7 miles or so between Cranberry Township and Evans City, and is called Franklin Rd. It's a narrow road with little traffic and no cops. Ever. Nothing but grin-inducing twists, hairpins and switchbacks, with a straight juuust long enough to really wind out your engine and build up some speed after tossing your passengers around. Then it's back to the twisties for the second half of this hidden jewel of a road. If you're ever in the area I suggest you seek it out. It's worth it. "

My favorites are winding, twisty roads that I won't mention the name of just outside my small community. Fun to drive!

I like Route 6, cutting across the northern tier of Pennsylvania.

My favorite road is Hwy 101 almost anywhere along the Oregon coast. Other than that is Hwy 1 along the California coast. Looks like I have a thing for the Pacific Ocean and beaches!

I've traveled in 39 states and have to say I like them all. The Desert has it's own straight roads where you can see for miles ahead and the mountains and hills have their winding climbs and breathtaking beauty. I even enjoy driving a less crowded IH10 between midnight and 5 a.m.. If I were to choose a most memorable, I would choose the drive through "Kebler Pass" Colorado in the fall, though it isn't the same dangerously fun road it was in the 70's.
