Autoblog Poll on Tundra

Chevroletman asked:
"According to a recent poll done by Autoblog, people just don't think that the Tundra has enough to steal sales away from Silverado and F150. More than half of voters, 56%, say that the only sales the Tundra will steal are from Nissan and Dodge. Only a small 18% think that the Tundra will champion the fullsize market. From this poll at least, it doesn't appear that Toyota has enough truck to beat the competition." http://www.autoblog.com/media/2006/02/Picture-2.JPG
what do you think?

I personally don't think the Japanese trucks will dominate the truck market anytime soon. Even though American trucks are crude in quality but they have evolved to be better every generation.

I agree. The Tundra doesn't have the goods to compete.

Considering Toyo's rep of "reverse engineering" Ford vehicles (actually coping them....they were going to call the "Tundra" the "T-150" until Ford threatened suit) for them to attemt to copy someone else. That said the truc looks like a largemouth bass...very very ugly.

Yeah, the new Silverado and Tundra are some of the ugliest trucks out there.

the tundra is okay, but yeah it just doesn't have the goods to compete. when you pay 30k+ you would expect something like the F-150 or the Ram.

People said the same thing about Hyundai and Kia about their cars about 6-8 years ago and look where they are now... It just takes time. People want something different. Thats why I can't beleive the new silverado...
Mark my words...In the next 4 years, every car company will add a truck to its line-up and if they can keep their cost down and their quality up, Ford/Chevy/Dodge will feel the pinch... Toyota may not have the best rep for their trucks, but at least they are willing to change with the times and listen to what people want !! The new Tundra will do just fine...

It'll do just fine; but that's all it'll do.

this is very true...Now if they find a way to sell it for under 30K and get over 20 MPG, that will be a whole different ball game !!

Yeah. If they could get it to do that at that price point, they'd sell like hotcakes.

hey buddy,
i think you should update yourself on the Tundra issue because when it goes on sale it will take the sales on all the domestic trucks respectively. if you what pricing then look again on the MT's update.

I think the new tundra is going to sale well. I just test drove one and was real impressed.

In the half-ton truck market, only the GMC/Chevy was true competition for the Tundra. They are both very similar. In the end, I liked the seats in the Tundra a bit better than the GMC. If Chevy had delivered its hybrid version earlier it would have been enough to sway my purchase. They are that close. If I had decided to go with a 3/4-ton or a 1-ton, I would have prefered the Ford or Dodge.
